Safeguarding. We hear this word a lot and we all know it’s important.
But what does it actually mean for me and my club?
Safeguarding is the action we take to support the welfare of children
and to protect them from harm and abuse.
As a committee member and Welfare Officer it’s my role to make sure
the children and young people at our club are safe
and can just get on and enjoy their football.
Everyone who works directly with children and young people
in a named role are CRC checked
to make sure they are suitable.
This includes all our coaches, assistant coaches
and even me, the Welfare Officer.
Everyone involved in the running of our club
and teams are FA safeguarding trained
To keep up to speed with safeguarding
we only involve suitable people, we all work together
to create safe environments
and everyone knows they must report concerns.
As the Welfare Officer, I understand these steps matter
and it is my job is to get them deeply rooted
in everything the club does.
To make this happen I need all the committee members
to support me and play their part in the steps we take.
Club committee members have a collective responsibility
to ensure best practice is integrated
across the clubs they lead.
As a group we share this responsibility - not just
one of us - it’s all of us.
Young people deserve a safe environment
to enjoy this wonderful game of ours.
