Hi there. I think it’s about time you
learnt about the inside of a PC.
We’ve had a service desk request
come through for a hardware upgrade
so once you’ve shown me what you
know about the inside of a PC,
I’m going to get you to work on this upgrade for me.
Before you start pulling apart a user’s machine,
you’ll first need to liaise with them to
find out exactly what they need.
Then you can go ahead and start
researching possible solutions.
I think I’ll also get you to track down the parts for me
and gather some quotes for the
components that need to be bought.
One thing to keep in mind is that as a business, we have a purchasing policy that you’ll need to follow.
Also, there is a hardware upgrade policy
that you’ll need to follow
and this includes creating an action plan
that minimises any disruption to the user.
This plan will need to be approved by
myself and the end user before you start work.
Working inside a PC can be dangerous so first
of all I want you to brush up on your WHS
specifically for working inside of a computer.
As always, once you’re done you’ll need to
get some feedback from the end user,
and this is going to help you to improve your skills and make sure that any future rollouts run smoothly.
As a final task, we need to ensure that our
printers are always up and running for the users.
So I’ll also get you to investigate what
routine maintenance needs to be done
and turn this into a maintenance schedule.
This way, we’ll know what needs to be done and when.
When you’re ready, you can make a start or, if
you have any questions, feel free to ask them.
