Leadership Straight from Bill Hybels
What is the contribution only
you can bring to an organization?
When Peter Drucker would meet
with an executive,
he would ask, "What is the unique contribution...,"
with his thick Austrian accent.
"What is the unique contribution that only you can bring
to the organization you are called to steward?"
Everyone will have
a different answer.
My three unique contributions...
My executive team told
me this recently said,
"Bill, if you preach 35 times a year,
if you lead sections and raise money,
if you do those three things,
we will do everything else."
I agreed, so those are the main things
that I need to be doing right now.
This is a great question
you are asking.
Many years ago I led a group of
100 of our best WCA pastors.
I asked them, "What are the three unique
contributions you bring to your congregation?"
It took over an hour to get
clarity on that question.
Pastors live in a fog.
They think, "Well, I do funerals and
weddings. I need to lead the staff.
"I do some things with the elders,
then I do 'this' and should do 'that'."
It is a gift when you get to that
blinding level of clarity when you think,
"If I go to sleep at night and I know that
I have done these three things well,
that is my greatest contribution
to moving this church ahead."
Then you find great people
who do all the rest.
