FAITH IS PRECIOUS (CC)

A CLOSED CAPTIONED SERMON OCTOBER 6, 2013 WWW.ZIONTORRANCE.INFO PLEASE RISE. OUR TEXT FOR THIS MORNING IS LUKE 17: 1 -10 WHICH I WILL REREAD FOR EMPHASIS: JESUS SAID TO HIS DISCIPLES: "THINGS THAT CAUSE PEOPLE TO SIN ARE BOUND TO COME, BUT WOE TO THAT PERSON THROUGH WHOM THEY COME. IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR HIM TO BE THROWN INTO THE SEA WITH A MILLSTONE TIED AROUND HIS NECK THAN FOR HIM TO CAUSE ONE OF THESE LITTLE ONES TO SIN. SO WATCH YOURSELVES. "IF YOUR BROTHER SINS, REBUKE HIM, AND IF HE REPENTS, FORGIVE HIM. IF HE SINS AGAINST YOU SEVEN TIMES IN A DAY, AND SEVEN TIMES COMES BACK TO YOU AND SAYS, 'I REPENT,' FORGIVE HIM." THE APOSTLES SAID TO THE LORD, "INCREASE OUR FAITH!" HE REPLIED, "IF YOU HAVE FAITH AS SMALL AS A MUSTARD SEED, YOU CAN SAY TO THIS MULBERRY TREE, 'BE UPROOTED AND PLANTED IN THE SEA,' AND IT WILL OBEY YOU. SUPPOSE ONE OF YOU HAD A SERVANT PLOWING OR LOOKING AFTER THE SHEEP. WOULD HE SAY TO THE SERVANT WHEN HE COMES IN FROM THE FIELD, 'COME ALONG NOW AND SIT DOWN TO EAT'? WOULD HE NOT RATHER SAY, 'PREPARE MY SUPPER, GET YOURSELF READY AND WAIT ON ME WHILE I EAT AND DRINK; AFTER THAT YOU MAY EAT AND DRINK'? WOULD HE THANK THE SERVANT BECAUSE HE DID WHAT HE WAS TOLD TO DO? SO YOU ALSO WHEN YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING YOU WERE TOLD TO DO, SHOULD SAY, 'WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE OUR DUTY.' " WE PRAY: DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER, AS WE TURN TO YOUR WORD THIS MORNING, WE ASK THAT YOU BLESS OUR HEARTS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT INCREASES OUR FAITH SO THAT WE CAN LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR AND SHOW THAT LOVE BY FORGIVING WHEN WE ARE SINNED AGAINST. AMEN. PLEASE BE SEATED. [TEXT TAKEN FROM THE HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION, 1973, 1978, 1984, USED BY PERMISSION OF ZONDERVAN BIBLE PUBLISHERS] MY FELLOW BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST: GRACE AND PEACE ARE YOURS FROM GOD OUR FATHER AND FROM OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. LIFE IS PRECIOUS. FOR YEARS WE'VE SPENT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PRESERVE THE LIVES OF THOSE WHO ARE SICK. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS CAN BE SPENT JUST TO PRESERVE ONE PERSON'S LIFE. EVEN THOUGH OUR SOCIETY MAY BE A LITTLE MIXED UP AT TIMES ON THE ISSUE OF LIFE, HOW MUCH LIFE IS WORTH PRESERVING OR WHEN DOES A LIFE START, IT'S GENERALLY RECOGNIZED THAT "LIFE IS PRECIOUS". IF WE CONSIDER OUR PHYSICAL LIFE HERE ON EARTH PRECIOUS, HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD WE REGARD OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE AS PRECIOUS! IN OUR TEXT THIS MORNING, JESUS POINTS OUT TO US THAT "FAITH IS PRECIOUS!" AND HE DOES IT IN THREE WAYS. FIRST, JESUS SHOWS THAT FAITH IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN PHYSICAL LIFE; AND THEN HE SHOWS US THAT IT'S FAR MORE POWERFUL THAN PHYSICAL FORCE. AND FINALLY THAT FAITH IS FAR ... WORTH FAR MORE THAN ANYTHING THAT WE DESERVE. JESUS GOES ABOUT MAKING HIS FIRST POINT, THAT OUR FAITH IS MORE VALUABLE THAN PHYSICAL LIFE, BY TALKING ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE IT IS TO FALL AWAY FROM THE FAITH. HE STARTS OUT BY ADMITTING THAT SUCH A THING IS BOUND TO HAPPEN IN OUR SINFUL WORLD. JESUS SAYS, "IT IS INCONCEIVABLE THAT SPIRITUAL DEATH TRAPS WILL NOT BE SET UP FOR BELIEVERS." IN A SINFUL WORLD LIKE OURS, THE THOUGHT THAT SPIRITUAL DEATH TRAPS WOULD NOT BE SET UP, WELL THAT'S JUST UNBELIEVABLE, JESUS TELLS US AND HE USES THE WORD "SKANDALON". THE NIV TRANSLATES THIS AS "THINGS THAT CAUSE PEOPLE TO SIN." BUT ACTUALLY IT'S FAR MORE THAN THAT. A SKANDALON WAS A BAIT THAT WAS PUT ON THE TRIGGERING DEVICE OF A TRAP, LIKE CHEESE ON A MOUSETRAP. YOU CAN PICTURE IT AS THE THING THAT LURES PEOPLE INTO THE JAWS OF SATAN'S TRAP. UNSUSPECTING, LIKE A LITTLE MOUSE, BELIEVERS ARE LURED INTO THAT TRAP BY THE BAIT. AND THEY TRY IT - AND THEN THE TRAP IS SPRUNG. THE STEEL JAWS OF UNREPENTANCE AND SPIRITUAL REBELLION COME CLICKING DOWN ON THEIR HEAD AND THEIR SPIRITUAL LIFE IS STRANGLED OUT OF THEM. HELD IN THE GRIP OF SIN, THEY GROW SPIRITUALLY DEAD, AND COLD TO THE WORD, UNABLE TO CRY OUT TO GOD FOR HELP. JESUS' POINT IS THAT THESE DEATH TRAPS ARE SET BY OTHER PEOPLE! SATAN USES PEOPLE HE'S ALREADY TRAPPED TO LURE OTHERS INTO HIS TRAP AS WELL. THE OLD SAYING: MISERY LOVES COMPANY. JESUS WORDS ARE ADDRESSED TO PEOPLE WHO CAUSE OTHERS TO STUMBLE INTO THE TRAPS OF SATAN. JESUS SAID, "IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR HIM IF A MILLSTONE WERE HUNG AROUND HIS NECK AND HE WERE HURLED INTO THE SEA THAN HE SHOULD CAUSE ONE OF THESE LITTLE ONES TO STUMBLE." YOU KNOW WHAT A MILLSTONE WAS. IT WAS A HUGE STONE USED TO GRIND THE GRAIN OUT. IF WE HAD A HEAVY STONE AND WERE HOLDING THAT AND TRIED TO SWIM, THAT WOULD BE HARD ENOUGH, BUT A MILLSTONE AROUND THE NECK IS IMPOSSIBLE. HOW PRECIOUS IS THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF A BELIEVER! HOW PRECIOUS IS FAITH! JESUS LITERALLY SAID IT WOULD PAY FOR A PERSON TO DIE PHYSICALLY IF HE COULD AVOID CAUSING ANOTHER PERSON TO DIE SPIRITUALLY! OBVIOUSLY OUR FAITH IS WORTH FAR MORE THAN OUR PHYSICAL LIFE. JESUS GOES ON TO SAY, "KEEP ON WATCHING YOURSELVES!" IT'S A CONTINUAL ACTION YOU HAVE TO DO. JESUS WAS TALKING TO HIS DISCIPLES. THEY WERE BELIEVERS. THEY KNEW ENOUGH TO KEEP OUT AN EYE FOR THE DEVIL'S TRAPS. BUT JESUS KNEW ALSO THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE ENCOURAGED TO CONTINUALLY KEEP THEIR EYES OPEN SO THEY WOULDN'T FALL INTO ONE OF SATAN'S TRAPS. AND JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, THEY WERE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY DID NOT BECOME AN INSTRUMENT OF A FELLOW BROTHER OR SISTER IN CHRIST FALLING AWAY FROM THE FAITH. JESUS WENT ON TO SAY, "IF YOUR BROTHER SINS AGAINST YOU REBUKE HIM. AND IF HE REPENTS, FORGIVE HIM." THE WORDS OF CAIN, "AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?" HAVE ECHOED DOWN THROUGH HISTORY AS PEOPLE HAVE LAMELY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST. IS THERE SOMEONE WHO IS NO LONGER A MEMBER HERE AT ZION BECAUSE WE FAILED TO LOVE THEM ENOUGH TO SHOW THEM THAT THEY WERE CAUGHT IN A TRAP OF THE DEVIL? JESUS TELLS US "REBUKE" THEM. UNLESS WE POINT OUT THEIR SIN, HOW WILL THEY REALIZE A PERSON WHO'S BLINDED BY SATAN; HOW WILL THEY REALIZE AND SEE THE DANGER TO THEIR ETERNAL LIFE? ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE SOMETIMES DRAG OUR FEET POINTING OUT SOMEONE ELSE'S SIN TO THEM IS WE THINK TO OURSELVES: "WHO AM I TO BE DOING THIS?" ANOTHER MAY BE: "WHAT IF I OFFEND THEM AND LOSE THEM AS A FRIEND?" BUT CHRIST HAS GIVEN US THE RESPONSIBILITY TO EACH ONE OF US, TO REBUKE A PERSON WHO SINS AGAINST US. AND AS FOR OFFENDING THEM ... DO YOU REALLY WANT YOUR FRIEND TO STAY ON THE PATH TO HELL? IT IS POSSIBLE, OF COURSE, THAT THEY WILL NEVER REALIZE THEIR SIN. THEY MAY CONTINUE IN IT DESPITE OUR WARNINGS FROM GOD'S WORD. BUT ONE THING IS CERTAIN: UNLESS SOMEONE HAS ENOUGH LOVE TO WARN THEM OF THE ERROR THEY'RE EMBRACING, THEY WILL CONTINUE ON IN IT INDEFINITELY. ON THE OTHER HAND, IF WE WARN THEM, THEY MAY SEE THEIR ERROR AND REPENT. THEY MAY ASK GOD TO FORGIVE THEIR FOOLISH REJECTION OF HIS WORD AND TO OPEN THE WAY FOR THEM TO ETERNAL LIFE TO HAVE FAITH AGAIN TO RETURN TO HIM. AND GOD LOVINGLY FORGIVES "ALL" THOSE WHO CALL ON HIM IN REPENTANCE. REPENTANCE ... THERE'S A BIG WORD. WHAT DOES REPENTANCE ACTUALLY MEAN? REPENTANCE IS A 180-DEGREE TURNABOUT. IT'S A TOTAL CHANGE OF MIND SHOWN FORTH BY A PERSON'S ACTIONS. JESUS TELLS US THAT WHEN A PERSON COMES TO THEIR SENSES AND REALIZES AND HE ASKS AND WE ASK THEM, AND HE ASKS US TO FORGIVE THEM, THEN WE LET THEM KNOW IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS THAT THEY ARE FORGIVEN. THIS MEANS NO QUESTIONS ASKED, TOTALLY, WITHOUT HOLDING A GRUDGE AGAINST THEM. THAT'S WHY JESUS SAYS, "KEEP ON WATCHING YOURSELVES!" IT'S SO EASY, ISN'T IT, FOR OUR SINFUL NATURE TO HOLD A GRUDGE AGAINST SOMEONE ELSE? IT'S SO EASY TO KEEP A TALLY OF WRONGS WHEN SOMEONE HAS DONE SOMETHING AGAINST US. AND WHILE WE MAY APPEAR TO HAVE FORGIVEN THOSE PEOPLE ON THE SURFACE, UNDERNEATH WE'RE INCLINED TO DRAW BACK AND NOT TRULY RECEIVE THEM BACK WITH OPEN ARMS. JESUS' INTEREST IN THIS SIDE OF FORGIVING SOMEONE WHO HAS SINNED AGAINST US IS BY FAILING TO FORGIVE THEM, WE CAN CAUSE THEM TO FALL AWAY FROM CHRIST. OR IF WE SHOULD CAUSE, WE SHOULD, OR ... JUST A MINUTE, IF WE SHOULD CAUSE THEM TO FALL BACK INTO SIN BY OUR REFUSING TO FORGIVE THEM, CHRIST SAYS IT IS BETTER FOR US TO HAVE A MILLSTONE HUNG AROUND OUR NECK AND BE CAST INTO THE SEA! THEIR SPIRITUAL LIFE IS FAR MORE PRECIOUS THAN OUR PHYSICAL LIFE. AS STEPHEN SAID WHEN HE ECHOED JESUS' WORDS FROM THE CROSS: "FATHER, FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING." IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE ALSO FORGIVE. IT'S ESSENTIAL THAT WE NOURISH THE WEAK BROTHER AND SISTER IN CHRIST AS THEY REGAIN THEIR SPIRITUAL STRENGTH. AFTER ALL, HE'S BEEN CAUGHT IN A DELUSION OF SATAN WHICH HAD A STRANGLEHOLD ON HIS LIFELINE WITH GOD. SUCH A PERSON NEEDS ALL THE SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT THAT WE CAN GIVE THEM. JESUS GOES ON TO SAY: "IF HE SHOULD SIN AGAINST YOU SEVEN TIMES IN ONE DAY, AND SEVEN TIMES COMES TO YOU AND SAYS, 'I REPENT,' FORGIVE HIM." OBVIOUSLY JESUS ISN'T SETTING A LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT WE CAN FORGIVE A PERSON IN ONE DAY. RATHER HE WAS SHOWING THAT EVEN IF A PERSON SINS AGAINST US IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS IN THE SAME DAY, EVEN THEN WE'LL WANT TO EXPRESS OUR FORGIVENESS AS SOON AS THEY REALIZE THEIR SIN AND REPENT. TRUE REPENTANCE ALWAYS WILL BE EXPRESSED BY GOING TO THE PERSON YOU'VE SINNED AGAINST AND ASKING THEM TO FORGIVE YOU. THIS WAS TOO MUCH FOR THE APOSTLES. THEY RECOGNIZED THE TRUTH OF THE SAYING, "TO SIN IS HUMAN, TO FORGIVE IS DIVINE." THEY KNEW THAT FORGIVING SOMEONE WAS A FRUIT OF FAITH AND SO THEY SAID TO OUR LORD: "INCREASE OUR FAITH". THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD A HARD TIME FORGIVING SOMEONE FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, DON'T YOU? I SAY THAT THE POWER TO FORGIVE SOMEONE DOESN'T COME FROM OURSELVES. IT IS AN EXERCISE OF THE FAITH THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US. ONLY GOD CAN FILL US WITH THE LOVE NECESSARY TO LOVE SOMEONE WHO IS UNLOVABLE. AND ISN'T THAT WHAT JESUS DID? WHEN HE SHOWED HIS LOVE TO US BY CLIMBING UP ONTO THE CROSS AND WILLINGLY GIVING HIS LIFE AS A SACRIFICE FOR US. IT SAYS THAT HE DIED FOR US WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS. CHRIST DIED FOR THE UNGODLY; FOR THE UNLOVABLE. THAT'S WHAT JESUS DID WHEN HE DIED FOR OUR SINS ON THE CROSS. WE NEEDED FORGIVENESS DESPERATELY. AND JESUS LOVED US ENOUGH TO FREELY GIVE HIS LIFE FOR US. HE PROVED THAT FAITH IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN PHYSICAL LIFE, BY GIVING HIS LIFE FOR US TO SAVE US SPIRITUALLY. BECAUSE HE LOVED US FIRST, WE NOW LOVE HIM. AND BECAUSE WE LOVE HIM, NOW WE CAN FREELY LOVE THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST US. IN ANSWER TO THE DISCIPLES REQUEST FOR MORE FAITH, JESUS ADVANCED THE THOUGHT FROM HIS FIRST POINT, THAT FAITH IS MORE VALUABLE THAN PHYSICAL LIFE. AND HE SHOWED HIS DISCIPLES THAT FAITH IS MORE POWERFUL THAN PHYSICAL FORCE. HE SAID, "IF YOU HAVE FAITH AS SMALL AS A MUSTARD SEED, YOU CAN SAY TO THIS MULBERRY TREE, 'BE UPROOTED AND PLANTED IN THE SEA,' AND IT WILL OBEY YOU." IT MIGHT APPEAR AS IF JESUS IS TELLING HIS DISCIPLES THAT THEY HAVE NO FAITH, BUT THIS IS NOT REALLY THE CASE. RATHER JESUS IS SAYING TO THEM, 'YOU HAVE FAITH, BUT YOU'RE NOT USING IT!" WE ALSO RARELY REALIZE WHAT AN AWESOME POWER WE HAVE RIGHT BENEATH OUR FINGERTIPS WHEN WE CUP OUR HANDS IN PRAYER TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER. JESUS' ILLUSTRATION MAY SEEM RIDICULOUS AT FIRST GLANCE ASKING FOR A TREE TO BE UPROOTED AND PLANTED IN THE SEA? HOW CAN YOU PLANT SOMETHING IN THE SEA? BUT IT IS THE NATURE OF FAITH TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE. IT IS THE NATURE OF GOD TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE THROUGH FAITH. BY THIS ILLUSTRATION OF THE MULBERRY TREE, JESUS WAS TELLING HIS DISCIPLES THAT "FAITH" IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY PHYSICAL FORCE. GOD SHOWED THAT WITH DANIEL WHEN HE SHUT THE MOUTH OF THE LIONS IN THE LIONS' DEN. GOD SHOWED THAT WITH JOSHUA AFTER TIME AFTER TIME WHEN JOSHUA WENT FORTH IN BATTLE AND WON VICTORIES WITHOUT LOSING A SINGLE SOLDIER EVEN WHEN HE FOUGHT AGAINST ARMIES WITH SUPERIOR NUMBERS AND WEAPONS. AND GOD SHOWED IT WHEN THE STONE THAT SHUT JESUS IN THE TOMB WAS ROLLED AWAY TO REVEAL AN EMPTY TOMB. DO YOU FACE IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS IN YOUR LIFE? REMEMBER: FAITH IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY PHYSICAL FORCE. TRUST IN GOD. CAST ALL YOUR ANXIETIES UPON HIM, BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU. JESUS' FINAL ILLUSTRATION IN ANSWER TO THE DISCIPLES' REQUEST ... "INCREASE OUR FAITH!" ... WAS GIVEN AS A WARNING TO NOT GO BEFORE GOD EXPECTING A REWARD WHEN WE TRUST IN HIS PROMISES. JUST HAVING FAITH IS WORTH FAR MORE THAN ANYTHING WE REALLY DESERVE. IF GOD DECIDES TO REWARD US THEN THAT IS HIS BUSINESS, BUT WE ARE NOT TO ASK HIM FOR ANY REWARD WHEN WE USE THE FAITH THAT HE HAS GIVEN US. TO ILLUSTRATE THIS, JESUS SAID, "SUPPOSE ONE OF YOU HAD A SERVANT PLOWING OR LOOKING AFTER THE SHEEP. WOULD HE SAY TO THAT SERVANT WHEN HE COMES IN FROM THE FIELD, 'COME ALONG NOW AND SIT DOWN TO EAT'? WOULD HE NOT RATHER SAY, 'PREPARE MY DINNER [SUPPER], GET YOURSELF READY AND WAIT ON ME WHILE I EAT AND DRINK; AFTER THAT YOU MAY EAT AND DRINK'? WOULD HE THANK THE SERVANT BECAUSE HE WAS TOLD WHAT HE BECAUSE HE DID WHAT HE WAS TOLD TO DO? THE ANSWER, IN THE GREEK, INDICATES THAT THE ANSWERS THAT JESUS ASKED THEM, GIVEN BY THE VERY NATURE OF THE LANGUAGE. OF COURSE NOT! OF COURSE YOU WOULDN'T INVITE THE SERVANT TO EAT WITH YOU. OF COURSE YOU WOULD COMMAND HIM TO PREPARE YOUR DINNER. AND, OF COURSE, YOU WOULDN'T THANK THE SERVANT FOR MERELY DOING WHAT YOU HAD TOLD HIM TO DO. JESUS THEN CONCLUDED, "SO YOU ALSO, WHEN YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING YOU WERE TOLD TO DO, SHOULD SAY, 'WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE OUR DUTY.' " INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, WHEN WE APPLY THIS LAST SAYING TO OURSELVES, STANDING BEFORE THE FATHER ON THE JUDGMENT DAY, WE WILL NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO SAY THAT. WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SAY, 'WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE OUR DUTY." WHICH OF US TRULY "DOES HIS DUTY" BEFORE GOD? WHICH OF US DOES HIS DUTY TO GOD ALL THE TIME? OUR CONFESSION TO GOD WOULD RATHER BE, "WE ARE UNGRATEFUL SERVANTS; WE'VE NEGLECTED TO DO OUR DUTY AND, SO OFTEN, WE DO JUST THE OPPOSITE!" BUT JESUS IS NOT POINTING OUT WHAT WE HAVE NOT DONE FOR GOD, OR EVEN WHAT WE HAVE DONE AGAINST GOD. BUT RATHER THAT WE SHOULDN'T TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED FOR GOD EITHER. DO CHILDREN DESERVE A REWARD WHEN THEY TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE AFTER THEY'VE BEEN TOLD TO? IS IT NOT SOMETHING THAT'S EXPECTED? SO IT IS WITH THE THINGS THAT THE FATHER HAS FOR US DO. SO JUST HAVING FAITH IS WORTH MORE THAT WHAT ANYTHING THAT WE DESERVE. LUTHER WHEN HE LAY DYING WAS ASKED IF HE BELIEVED THAT HE WAS SAVED BY WHAT JESUS HAD ACCOMPLISHED FOR HIM WHEN JESUS DIED AND ROSE AGAIN. AND LUTHER HUMBLY SAID, "WE ARE ONLY BEGGARS BEFORE GOD." IT'S THE SAME THING AS WHAT OUR TEXT SAYS, "WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE OUR DUTY." AND WHAT ABOUT THOSE THINGS WE HAVEN'T DONE FOR GOD? WHAT ABOUT THOSE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE AGAINST GOD'S WILL? WE CAN SAY TO GOD, "WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE OUR DUTY" BECAUSE JESUS FULFILLED THE LAW'S DEMANDS FOR US. JESUS LIVED THE PERFECT LIFE IN OUR PLACE. AND THEN HE TOOK AWAY OUR SINS. THE THINGS THAT WE DID AGAINST JESUS' WILL HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM US THROUGH THE BLOOD WHEN HE DIED; THAT WAS SHED ON THE CROSS WHEN HE DIED FOR US. AND THE BENEFITS OF WHAT JESUS DID COME THROUGH FAITH, WHICH IS ALSO FAR MORE THAN ANYTHING WE DESERVE. WHAT'S THE MOST PRECIOUS THING YOU POSSESS? IT'S NOT YOUR HOME. IT'S NOT YOUR COLLEGE DEGREE. FAITH IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN THOSE. WHAT'S THE MOST POWERFUL THING YOU HAVE AT YOUR DISPOSAL? WHATEVER YOU CAN THINK OF, I DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE MOUNTAINS OR PLANT A TREE IN THE SEA. BUT FAITH IS A PRECIOUS GIFT FROM GOD FAR OUTWEIGHING ANYTHING ELSE. IT'S WORTH FAR MORE THAN ANYTHING WE DESERVE. LET'S REMEMBER TO THANK GOD WHEN WE COME BEFORE HIM EVERY DAY IN PRAYER THAT HE ALLOWS US TO SERVE HIM BY EXERCISING OUR FAITH. AMEN. [MOTION MADE FOR CONGREGATION TO RISE] NOW MAY THE PEACE THAT COMES FROM KNOWING THAT ALL OF YOUR SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS IN THE TRUE FAITH UNTO LIFE EVERLASTING. IN JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. AMEN.
