Thank you for joining us on this journey through diabetes and what it means to you. We hope that we have helped you to understand what diabetes is, and made you more confident about managing your condition and remaining well. In this final video in the series, we just wanted to remind you of some key headlines: Having diabetes is challenging, but it is very manageable. You can control it and you can enjoy a very normal life. But you need to be conscious of the additional risks you face, and make sure that you take steps to reduce them. Make sure that you control your blood sugar level by keeping a close eye on what you eat and drink. Find a diet that works for you, but which still allows you to enjoy your food. There are some things you can do that can really help your diabetes. If you smoke, do your very best to give it up. If you drink alcohol, over and above the recommend level, try to cut down. And if you are overweight, try to get your weight down. You should be trying to be as active as possible, remember some activity is better than none. And make sure you go for your regular checkups including blood tests, eye checks and foot checks. All this may sound a bit tough, but remember there is a team of healthcare professionals including your GP, practice diabetes nurses, podiatrists and dieticians available to help you. They have lots of experience and plenty of advice, so make sure you use them. If at any time you have any concerns about your condition, please ask. It's much better to check and spot something early, than spend time worrying. And don't forget that there is plenty of ongoing support available from the healthy lifestyle team, your local Diabetes UK voluntary group and through the Diabetes UK website. What should you do now? By now, you should have a good idea of the one or two things that will make the biggest difference to how you control your diabetes So, set yourself a simple plan to make the necessary changes to your life. Then, with the help of your family and friends, go out and achieve your goals. Celebrate success and use that as motivation to continue to do more.
