Hello, my name is Lynn. Welcome. So we have gathered today for the Awakening of the Heart. I had two programs planned and I did the first one earlier and that was entering the deep heart through the remembrance of She and it is the work that I do with people who are not my students, it's called the Circle of Light And it has to do with a particular work that I was given to do. So you missed that. Now, we've still gathered for the Awakening of the Heart, but this is my other work called Light upon Light. And this is how I sit with my students, but it'll be a little bit different. Because what I did earlier, I could actually give things to people. And we'll do practices but it'll just be energetically a little different, I think. I'm not sure, but I think so. But first I want to start with what I read, that hopefully, what one of our intentions involve, that hopefully will carry over into this seminar as well. This work that I do through the remembrance of She has to do with the restoration of the sacred initiatic union between the male and female principles that was once at the heart of the sacred mystery. All those who practice the sacred embrace, will kindle the light. Through the sacred embrace, we are invited into the interior. Neither man nor woman, alone, is created in the image of God. It is only in their relationship with one another in sacred embrace in which they share the divine breath that they resembled God So if you can kind of keep that as part of what we're going to do. I'm going to start with the connection that we're going to have for what we're going to do now. But I'm going to give us a glimpse of the deep heart, where we're going. At the center of our being is a point of nothingness, which is untouched by sin and by illusion. A point or spark which belongs entirely to God. It is inaccessible to the fantasies of your own mind or the brutalities of your own will. This little point of nothingness is the pure glory of God in you. It is so to speak, the name, written in you. It is like a pure diamond. It is said that to discover this virgin point is to return to origin. To return to where you were, before you were. And so first we're going to make our connection, and it's... We do this through intention, and the intention that we're going to use is: O, Eternal Being, I am knocking at your door. I turn my attention inward towards the eternal light, may my heart be filled with the bounties and blessings of your luminous light, your love. And so we do this through the practice of Muraqaba. It's the practice of abiding in the silence. Be still, awake. Ok, sorry, I'm still in the last seminar, and I'm trying to get here. And so I sit in muraqaba with people and there are these subtle centers in consciousness that you've been hearing about this weekend and there are many veils over these centers, and so they're to be lit. And so these practices that we do by the power of the ritual, the practice This is where the transformation takes place. The spiritual energy that we invoke comes into our chest and we just sit and wait for the bounties and blessings to come. So what I'm going to do is- it's the idea of, if you have your attention up here all of the time. If you just kind of think a little bit like the idea of an elevator and you're going to bring your attention into your chest and you're going to pay attention here, so that these subtle centers can get some light. So, I'm going to say the intention, once, and then we're going to sit for twenty minutes. And like I said you say this silently within your heart. O, Eternal Being, I am knocking at your door. I turn my attention inward toward the eternal light. May my heart be filled with the bounties and blessings of your luminous light; your love. So we'll go into meditation. So welcome, my name is Lynn. I'm not even sure if I did this before or not. But we're going to sit together today with some of the practices that have been traditionally used to awaken the heart. The first one that we just did is muraqaba, and we turned towards the eternal Being. The one who never has not been. We knocked on that door. And when you are in that watchful waiting state, the spiritual energy from the path comes into the heart and opens the subtle centers that are in consciousness. Now there are these four lights in the heart that are to be lit, and one of them is called the light of submission. And so when you sit in this way you place yourself in submission. To be receptive to the bounties and blessings that come from Allah into your heart. So we've actually changed our orientation. We made a turn. We moved within. And we are paying attention towards the eternal light And then we ask that the bounties and blessings come into our heart. So that was the practice that we just did. Now we're going to move on. And this practice is called accompaniment And you do this practice with someone who knows the way because you're trying to go into your deep heart. And so there is another light that is to be lit, and it's called the light of faith. The easiest way for me to give meaning to this that maybe you can hold to is that faith is acceptance by the heart of the truth of God's revelation. Now this revelation has been streaming forth in consciousness since the beginning but for some reason your heart hasn't really been able to accept it as the truth and so you have a lot of doubt and uncertainty So this is another light that is to be lit in the heart. The third light that's to be lit in the heart is the light of gnosis and this is the witnessing of the real. And the fourth is the light of unification. So through these practices of awakening the heart, you light these lights that are there. And that's one of the intentions of doing practices is to bring light into the chest so that this particular quality of knowledge of God can come directly to you So you won't have a teacher telling you what it is any longer. You will actually know what it is because you will be having the experience of it in your heart in a way that is very unique to you and that you will understand in your own way so that you can continue to travel deeply. Because sometimes when people ask me a question I can only speak from my experience, and so I say that and then there's this huge resistance to what I've said because it doesn't sound like what they've heard before and so the curtain comes down. And so when this light of gnosis is lit it'll be disclosed to you in your own heart in a way that you will understand that has meaning for you and then you can deepen that in your own way. So the next practice that we're going to do is by grace of accompaniment so we're going to go into the deep by the grace of the tradition that I sit in. Ok, so again this will be abide in the silence, be still awake, or you may know as muraqaba. So when I say we're going to go into the deep heart this is a little bit of an idea if you need something to sort of reference what that possibly could be. At the center of our being is a point of nothingness which is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point or spark which belong entirely to God. It is inaccessible to the fantasies of your own mind or the brutalities of your own will. This little point of nothingness is the pure Glory of God in you. It is so to speak, the name, written in you. It is like a pure diamond. It is said that to discover this virgin point is to return to origin. To return to where one was, before one was. So again we're going to invoke the Eternal Being. We're going to knock at that door. We're going to pay attention towards the eternal light, and then may the bounties and blessings come into your heart. So, I'll say it one more time. O, Eternal Being, I am knocking at your door. I turn my attention inward towards the eternal light. May my heart be filled with the bounties and blessings of your luminous light, your love. Ok. So, I've had another one of my famous Sufi moments and my program has changed. I'm going to continue- I can't come out of the silence that we went into in the first program. so we're just going to have to continue, and there are a number of people here that were here for the first program and so we're still moving into the deep heart. So, I'm going to continue, where we were, where I left off with the people that were here before. And this is called be opened. And when you're going into the deep heart, you'll reach a point where a great deal of fear comes upon you And I'm going to read something from Rûmî that may help. Rûmî asks what is there to be afraid of? Don't be afraid of non-being. If you want to be afraid, fear the existence you now have. Your hopes for the future, your memories of the past, what you call yourself is nothing. So nothing is being taken from nothing. And a nothing is being absorbed by a nothing. Open the door to the deep heart, the diamond bright, to that little point of nothingness that is the pure Glory of God in you that point or spark of nothingness which belongs entirely to God. So now we're going to do a zikr. You can get comfortable if you want. I don't mind if you sit on the floor. However... The repetition of the name is an ancient practice and is found in many mystical traditions. The sacred names, the beautiful names, are revealed. They come from within and have been spoken in this world revealed to us by the great beings who have manifested truth. So sometimes, when you get to a place in the heart where you feel that there's a curtain or veil that you just can't get through and you go to the teacher and you say what more can I do? and you're in that place in the heart where it's the interior teacher that's now guiding you. I have one story that might help you when you get to that place. And it's from the 14th century Egypt, and it's from a desert father. A monk came to see Abba and said Abba, I observe fast. I pray. I maintain stillness. I try to keep my thoughts pure. What more can I do? The old man stood up, invoked and his fingers became like ten burning lamps of fire. If you wish, he said, you can become all flame. And so um, when I do remembrance with people, I do it in silence. But I have prepared a tape that I'm going to play where someone is going to do the invoke for us. When I sit with my students we do it in silence. I do everything in silence, the invocation, everything. And then we do the rest of the practice. So I'm going to give that practice now. So, the remembrance, the one who never has not been and to where one was before one was before one was. To polish the heart. To wipe away the veil of dust which has gathered upon it. there is remembrance. Invoke. Let yourself be drawn towards the luminous light. Turn your heart toward what you love. Toward the one great brightness. Recite. There is no one but One. Empty your heart of anything other than God so it can be filled with refulgent light. So, we place ourselves in a state of loving submission and we go into the deep. We abide in the silence. So, there's going to be the invocation and she's going to set it up for you and then the rest will be in silence. So whatever your zikr is, feel free to use that. There is no one but One. There is no god but God. There is no truth but Truth. There is no reality but Reality. There is no light but Light, whatever you use. And we're going to sit for twenty minutes, but the important part of the zikr is the abide in the silence. And so you do your count for as many as you can and then there's a silence. And we'll remain in that for, so this is going to take about twenty minutes as well. Ok. May the bounties and blessings of Allah's light bring you out of the darkness so that you will know light upon light Allah guides whom he will to his light Light upon Light. Light upon Light. Light. Light Everywhere Light. There are three stages with the way that I sit with my students. It's first, contact with the Eternal Being, to be brought out of darkness into the light. To no longer have a life of shadow and light. The second is light upon Light, and the third is Light, light, everywhere light. Ok, I'm not to speak about that. I'm to talk about the silence now. Now be silent. Let the one who creates the words speak. He made the door. He made the lock. He also made the key. Through silence the light of the beyond shines in our eyes. There's a warning for silence. These are all thing from the Saints. There are two kinds of silence. One appears when the silent person...I'm going to start over. There are two kinds of silence. One appears when the silent person has been carried in rapture out of the creaturely world. Such a silence is blessed. The other comes from remaining in the creaturely world, while at the same time refusing to take part in its processes. Such silence is harmful, poison. In order to hear this whisper, in order to go into the deep heart, here's some hints about this and this is part of the practice of silence that I do with people. As long as there is a trace of you in you, you can hear your Lord's call, come to me. Come to me. God's whose love and joy are present everywhere can't come to visit you unless you aren't there. Keep silent in order to hear God's whisper.
