Randi Zuckerberg - Rethinking a Remote Workforce

Rethinking a Remote Workforce We are now in this hybrid world Randi Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media where the workforce will probably be remote or hybrid of remote and in person for quite some time. And so if we can rethink that to provide tools for a remote workforce or a part remote workforce, that is an entirely new industry that has been created. Now before this pandemic, I think it was only about 20% of the workforce or less than that had ever worked remote at all, and now we're in a time where almost 100% of the workforce has had to think about how to introduce some remote aspects of their work. Now this photo is actually a photo of my husband. And I'm bringing this up because I actually shared this image at a few past WOBI events that I've spoken at. And when I shared this image, it was very novel and unique. You see, my husband for the last 3 or 4 years has run a company with 1,000 employees who are completely remote, no office. Now whenever I would show this slide at a WOBI event, people would say like, "Whoa! That's so weird. How could you run a company with 1,000 people with no office at all? How is that even possible?" But now suddenly, we have found ourselves overnight in this new world where every single company was forced to pivot that way. And it's been very interesting to see how my husband went from this unique weird case to kind of the epicenter of leadership in a remote world. And what I've seen is that there's so much opportunity to develop products, to rethink cities and kind of downtown areas, and to develop tools that we need for this new normal.
