Risk and Disaster Prevention Committee
I belong to the Risk and Disaster Mitigation group in the community.
In the case of mitigation of risks
we are responsible for watching out for the safety of the community
seeing what areas of risk there are in the community
where there are trash dumps that are badly located
what rivers and streams there are in the community
what places we could use to evacuate people
for example, the clinic, the community center
the schools, and as a last resort the soccer field
in case there are too many people to be evacuated in a given moment.
We've already had real life situations.
We have evacuated people who live in areas of risk
that we have mapped out on the community risk map.
When we had the earthquake we didn't know what to do because
there wasn't a group like this, a structured group, that knew what to do.
We weren't trained for any... to receive any kind of phenomenon like that, right?
But now we belong to the Risk and Disaster Mitigation group
and now we know what actions to take because
we've been trained in different places, see.
We've been trained, they have given us materials from other organizations
about stretchers, helmets, and we've organized a first aid kit.
For that we had the support of the health worker to know what goes into a first aid kit.
We have done drills to see what we would do if another disaster comes,
if we have another earthquake, which is the most common disaster here in our country.
