[7x7 Experience Risks]
How do you make a safe
decision when you're driving?
Right now, you might
be making your road decisions
based on efficiency.
How do you get your rider
where they're going
as fast as possible?
Maybe you bob
in and out of traffic
to get them
there that much faster,
or you squeal
through the traffic light just in time.
But when you are
focused on "efficiency,"
then you stop looking
at the road for safety,
and you start
getting bad ratings.
Your rider doesn't want
you to weave across lanes
or speed through a yellow light,
even if it gets them
where they're going faster.
Your rider wants to be safe.
You only have
this one trip to show them
that you're a safe driver.
Instead of trying
to be "efficient,"
you need to think
about the risks
you are taking
with the rider in your car.
For example, checking
your text messages while driving
is a high risk behavior.
You're distracted from the road
and won't have time to react.
According to the
Center for Disease Control,
distracted driving kills
approximately nine people
every day in the US.
That's nine people too many.
We all think we're
the one person who's okay to do it,
but we can't risk
adding to that statistic.
An example
of medium-risk behavior
might be checking
your text messages
when you're
at a red light.
It's still not
the safest decision,
but since the drivers
around you are stopped as well,
it's a much lower risk.
The lowest risk, though,
would be waiting
to check your text messages
until you are
safely pulled over,
parked out of
the flow of traffic.
You might be thinking,
"But what if I need
to check my text messages"
"because my next rider is
sending me information?"
Consider if there's
a compromise that you can use,
instead of choosing
a high-risk, dangerous behavior.
Maybe you can use
a bluetooth earpiece
and have your phone set up
with a text to voice option
that will read
your messages to you,
so you don't have to take
your eyes off of the road.
Many apps can even
use voice recognition
to write a message for you,
so that you don't have
to look at the screen at all.
