Calendar Time for Kindergarteners

We are going to make a calendar. The first thing you'll found on a calendar is a big word at the top usually just like this this word is usually the month the month we are working on is March at the bottom of the calendar you usually found the number a number like this that number is the year the year in this calendar is 2050. Across the top of the calendar you'll find the days of the week the days of the week start with Sunday now you may think that the week starts on a Monday because Monday is the first day that we go to school but the week actually starts on Sunday. So the calendar start with Sunday the other days of the week are Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday. Let's count the number of days we have in each week 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 There are 7 days in every week. There is a little song you can do there's Sunday and there's Monday there's Tuesday and there's Wednesday there's Thursday and there's Friday and then there's Saturday days of the week. The other thing you may found on a calendar are numbers. Numbers tell you what the date is these numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 when we use calendar language we say 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th the next set of numbers go down here we have 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and in calendar talk we say 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th and 12th the next set of numbers go down here this is 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 and in calendar talk we say 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th the next set of numbers go here this is 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 and in calendar talk we say 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th the last set of numbers go right here these are 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31. and in calendar talk 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st. The last number is 31 because the 31st day of March is the last day of March. So there are no numbers that come after the 31st. The 1st day of every month is called the 1st which is the number 1. The number 1 for March came on a Tuesday. We know it's a Tuesday because the 1 is here and right above it is the word Tuesday. Underneath this we have an 8, a 15, a 22, and a 29. All of these days are Tuesdays. The 1st, the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd, and the 29th of March 2050 will be a Tuesday. Wednesdays will be the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th because the Wednesday is above them. Thursday, this will be the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. Friday will be the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th with no number down here because 31 was the last day of the month. Saturday will be 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th Sunday will be the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th there's no day here so we can't count here and the same thing is true for Monday. So Monday will be the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th day of March 2050. Now the way we read a date is March 1st 2050 or you want to add a day we could say it Tuesday March 1st 2050 that is Tuesday March 1st Ops! We don't need all of them Tuesday March 1st 2050 and there would be a comma right here but we din't have one available tools Now lets put everything backward goes. There are 12 months in the year. So that's the next thing we'll talk about March is just 1 month, we have 12 of these. Here are the 12 months we have January, February, March, April, May, June July, August, September, October, November December there are 12. Let's count them. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 12 months in a year. Now the Months that are cold are coloured blue. January is cold, February is cold, November and December are cold. Now there's a lot of space between February and November but the way the months work is they always start back over, so after December is January, so we have the cold starting in November and it keeps going through December, January and February. These are months where you would definitely need a coat now March and April are months when you may need a coat cause it may be cool outside but it may be warm September and October are also months were you may need a coat cause it may be cold outside but it may be warm that's why they are orange they are not quite red which are going to be the hot months but they are warmer than the blue ones. Now May, June, July and August are all hot months so they are red. You probably won't need a coat during these months may be a little bit in August towards the end Aaa! not recently though. Now there is the song for the months of the year too it goes like this January, February, March, April May June July, August September, October, November, December. Then we start again! January, February, March, April May June July, August September, October, November, December. Then we start again!
