In order to separate anger from violence,
we need to create
a common language.
Intention - is the motivation
for the behavior. In violence it is to harm
and/or control. In nonviolent
anger expression it is to be in direct
and responsible contact.
PERMISSION is a clear request
for the time and opportunity to express anger.
In acts of violence, no permission is requested
often consciously as a means to control
or intimidate. Nonviolent anger
expression is ALWAYS preceeded
by permission. BOUNDARIES
are guidelines for the safe expression of anger.
FORM is the chosen mode
of experession.
FOCUS is our experience of self and others.
Those in a violent anger spectrum
tend to see objects, roles and labels.
A willingness to engage and relate
in a personal manner is characteristic
of nonviolent anger expression.
ENERGY is the distinction between violent charge
and nonviolent passion.
Charge is reactive and impulsive
without personal contact. Passion is interactive,
contactful and spontaneous.
