Leadership Straight from Bill Hybels People Disciplines Part 1 Monday morning what do you do to move the church from here to there? The first thing that comes to mind when I think about this has to do with people disciplines. Vision... Giving a vision does not get you to where the vision is pointing. It sets the course. Monday morning you have to get the people who are going to help you carry out the vision. You have to get the people, whether they be staff or volunteers. Those people have to own the vision, understand their part in the vision. They have to be empowered to do what you are asking them to do to get movement toward mission achievement. When you talk about the people disciplines... You get everyone together. A hard thing to do when trying get people to think in a disciplined way about vision achievement is this thing called alignment. If you are all going to align toward this vision achievement, that means you have to tell staff and volunteers what they cannot do anymore. Now we are going here, you cannot go 90 degrees over there. You cannot go 90 degrees there. We are all aligning together around vision achievement. This is an unpopular thing to tell staff and motivated volunteers that they cannot do the other things anymore because you are all bought in on doing this one great thing that you feel God wants you to do. It is a tough meeting on Monday morning. They are all fired up about the vision until you tell them everyone has to align around it. You are going to lose some people in the aligning process. They will not align. Now what? Those are hard conversations. Then you have to decide if you have right people in right positions with right attitudes as we are heading toward vision achievement. Right people in right positions with right attitudes. This is another really big thing. It takes so much discipline to sort out if you have the right people in the right positions with the right attitude. That is not an hour long meeting. That is something you work at on a weekly basis.
