Hi, I'm Veronica, WatchDojo. com and today we are breaking the fast and learning more about the Muslim faith.
So what is the Ramadan?
Ramadan is a month, it's a holy month for the Muslim people
and all Muslim people around the world they are fasting from sunrise to sunset.
Ramadan is a good time for worshipping
and is a really good time to get close to God, praying in mosque, reading Quran
It's a time for being forgiven.
Also Ramadan is a time for people to get together
at the same table, talk and establish a good friendship.
So can you tell us about this delicious food that we have here?
Ok. We have different kinds of Turkish salad made from grilled eggplant.
And also we have tomato in it.
Also this kind of 'cacik', cucumbers and yoghurt and different spices come together.
Here is the sauce and you can put it beside your food if you want.
And here is the Turkish 'borek' with cheese and dough together.
We are starting fast breaking with dates
It's really beneficial for your body.
And also there's a religious rule that prophet Muhammad advised people to break their fast with dates.
If they couldn't find any dates, then they can break their fast with water or salt.
Are we gonna pray first?
Yeah, we're gonna pray and then we're gonna eat it.
Now, fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. What are the other four?
Another one is 'Shahada'
which is there's no God but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of the God.
And the second one, the 'Salat', or prayers five times in a day and at different times.
The third one, the fasting from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan time.
The fourth one, 'Zakat', charity-giving.
The fifth one, 'Hajj', pilgrimage.
If your financial situation is ok, you are visiting holy city of Mecca.
You go without food during Ramadan
Is there anything else that you abstain from?
We are not eating, we are not drinking,
and also there's no sexual activities during your fasting
and also just try to get rid of your bad habits, try to do good deeds.
Well, thank you very much for teaching us all about Ramadan
and for inviting us to be your guests.
