Let's take a look at hierarchies. Sometimes you have a data set
where you want to view related fields all in one chart.
This makes it easier for your users to navigate through your data.
Let's take a look.
You can see I have a data set with a few related fields that are all subsets of one another.
Segment is a subset of Category, Manufacturer is a subset of Segment,
and Product is a subset of Manufacturer.
We can create a hierarchy by dragging and dropping the fields into one another.
So you can see here
I've just created a hierarchy.
Now if I need to rearrange them, I can simply right click
and move them up or down. I can also right click and rename the hierarchy to whatever I want.
Now I can hide the other fields so that they don't get in my way.
Great. Now I've got a hierarchy.
I can very easily create a visual
and now if I want to drill in, I just press these arrows at the top of the visual
and drill to the next level. So here I have the Segment
and the Manufacturer and all the Products in one simple chart.
If I want I can remove one of these fields
so that my users don't even need to see it.
And that's my hierarchy.
