Creating a Custom Block with Joe Shindelar This tutorial covers how to create a custom block. By the end of this tutorial, you'll know how to create a block showing the hours and location of the farmers' market. Before you get started with this tutorial, you want to make sure you know what blocks are and the relationship between blocks and regions. See the written version of this tutorial for links to each of the prerequisite tutorials. In the Manage administrative menu, click on Structure, then Block layout, and then Custom block library. This will take you to a page that lists all of your custom blocks. Click the Add custom block link and wait until the Add custom block page appears. To create a new custom block, fill in the provided form. For the Farmers' Market, we need an hours and location block and we can fill in the form with that information. The Block description field contains the name of the block as we want it shown to administrators. Let's set it to Hours and location block. The Body field contains the content you would like to display in the block itself. We'll fill that in with the hours and location information for the Farmers' Market. After filling in the form, click on the Save button. A message should appear indicating that the block has been saved. And, your new block should show up in the list of custom blocks. In this tutorial we created a new custom block that when placed into a region on our site will display the hours and location for the Farmers' Market.
