Ebola - the disease featured in the 1995 movie, Outbreak - is perhaps one of the scariest diseases known to man; it can cause massive hemorrhaging and there are several strains, all of which kill by causing organ failure and shock. The most deadly strain, Ebola Zaire (EBOZ), is currently raging through west Africa and officials from the World Health Organization are having a hard time getting it under control. Despite its lethality, however, Ebola is unlikely to spread outside Africa and - if it does - western countries will probably be able to mitigate its spread.
My thoughts and prayers to those in Africa who are suffering, and to those killed on the Malaysian flight shot down over Ukraine.
