Ben Moubamba Announces His Candidacy - Libreville Stadium, Gabon - For an ethical and moral revolution - 07/25/09 My dear Brothers, my dear Sisters, At this moment I would like to reflect on our dead, our ancestors I would like us to take a moment of silence for the dead of this country I am thinking of all of those illustrious forgotten heroes I am thinking of Mba Germain whose widow I would like to meet I am thinking of Joseph Rindjambe I am thinking of my uncle Moubamba Diengui I am thinking of other forgotten martyrs of this nation Let's take a moment of silence to pay homage to our dead and to our ancestors That they help us in this difficult period when Gabon is about to enter a new phase of history Thank you. I am going to talk to you very clearly to then listen I am here to talk to you about my candidacy The candidacy of a man aged 42 meaning the same age as the reign of President Omar Bongo Ondimba I was born in 1967 when the deceased head of state took power and I think our generation who grew up with the President and this youth, went from being sacred to being sacrificed (Cheers) Because we the youth have been sacrificed it is out of question that after 42 years, we should take another 30 or 40 years. That is unacceptable! Those who have governed this country for about a half a century have failed we cannot give them another chance despite the new lies that they are now inventing that is unacceptable! I am accusing all of those who have governed this country though many today are posturing as independent candidates or have formed improbable alliances I am accusing them of genocide against the Gabonese people! Why do I say genocide? Because of the following fact our country Gabon officially grosses about $2 to 5 billion/year but actually most experts agree that our country's budgetary revenue is more like $11.25 billion/yr while most Gabonese live like rats and Gabonese have no roads and Gabonese are sick we can no longer accept it and we cannot give the PDG system a chance which must now go and must now disappear (Cheers) I am asking Gabonese youth which are on average 25 yrs-old I'm saying this because I know that's how you feel we have been sacrificed we cannot accept that this system goes on we cannot accept that this system goes on and that is why I have risen, that I am standing and that is why I have risen, that I am standing because I have been through poverty at La Sorbonne because I have had the good fortune -Thank God!- of getting an education because I have had the good fortune -Thank God!- of getting an education that I went to France thanks to families that helped me that my life changed and my standard of living improved that my life changed and my standard of living improved I understood my responsibility was to eradicate dire poverty I understood my responsibility was to eradicate dire poverty ...in this rich country! and eradicate it I will! ...in this rich country! and eradicate it I will! I do not accept - No Gabonese can accept that the youth of Kinguélé, the youth of La Sorbonne, the youth of Venez-Voir, still live like rats the youth of Venez-Voir, still live like rats because that is not how humans should live. I say - Politicians' responsibility because that is not how humans should live. I say - Politicians' responsibility is to stop political witchcraft You Gabonese man, you Gabonese woman how much longer will you let them corrupt you with your own country's stolen funds with which you are being bought right now at Democracy City with which you are being bought right now at Democracy City how can we accept that candidates put $200 million in a 2-week campaign. Money that belongs to the Gabonese people. put $200 million in a 2-week campaign. money that belongs to the Gabonese people put $200 million in a 2-week campaign. money that belongs to the Gabonese people Right now as we speak the former Minister of Interior is making the people of Port-Gentil dance the former Minister of Interior is making the people of Port-Gentil dance well, those who have accepted to go listen after he was nicknamed the Prince of Darkness he came back to Gabon a week ago acting all of a sudden like a democrat like a friend of good governance he who persecuted independent NGOs of this country we cannot give the former Minister of Interior a chance because he has been a specialist of repression of Gabonese youth and citizens (Cheers) Young Gabonese men, Young Gabonese women I did not want this election to take place Aug. 30 and I do not understand why this election is being rushed is it for fear that the Gabonese figure out that they are being hoodwinked and that they may rise and sanction this regime I have proposed that this election be pushed back to late september at least I have proposed that this election be pushed back to late september at least and i don't understand that after years of electoral abstention when 80% of Gabonese were no longer voting I don't get that now that Gabonese are lining up and want to vote I don't get that now that Gabonese are lining up and want to vote while the interim President has sworn on our country's Constitution while the interim President has sworn on our country's Constitution to respect fundamental liberties and in this circumstance the first liberty to respect fundamental liberties and in this circumstance the first liberty that she is called to respect is the freedom to vote that she is called to respect is the freedom to vote and yet Gabonese are being denied the opportunity to register and vote and yet Gabonese are being denied the opportunity to register and vote that is unacceptable!
