So BAFTA is,
in LA 23 years old.
So that's BAFTA LA
BAFTA organization's main head office is in London and
that's the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Our program here,
working with the city, essentially,
started going into
underprivileged areas of Los Angeles where
kids were in areas where there were drive by shootings
and they were just scared to go to the parks and play.
BAFTA went in there and started a film program.
Humble as it was back in the day,
it was literally showing films to the kids.
Slowly, it gathered sponsorship
and I'm very proud to say that last year
so many years later I stood and opened
with a bunch of officials and those three individuals,
The Hellen Keller Screening Room,
financed by Warner Brothers
for the kids of that area.
And it was such a proud day for that area
and the community there.
And everyone turned up.
Some of the gang leaders from back in the day,
who are now old men,
were there to see.
I mean, they're like elder statesmen now.
It was such a lovely thing.
And then we go into the schools,
and we bring in,
BAFTA actors,
members of the BAFTA community,
who will teach filmmaking techniques,
acting techniques, acting for camera.
We've worked in some of the studios where we've brought kids in and they're worked
with technicians, experts, editors and stuff.
The BAFTA programs fabulous.
That's the great work BAFTA's doing here.
And it's not so much talked about because it's not sexy,
but it's very cool.
