A pair of newborn pandas were revealed
to the public at Madrid zoo.
The twin cubs were born 135 days
after their mother was artificially inseminated.
Pandas normally have great difficulty breeding
so veterinarians normally look to artificial insemination
as a method to help repopulate the species.
From Madrid Zoo veterinarian MarĂa del Cloux
the twins birth is a significant addition
to the international conservation of species programme
which, at the moment, only has about 300 animals.
The cubs spend some time in an incubator
taking turns at being fed by their mother.
But it's unlikely / there's a long queue of eager visitors for looking in on the newborns
