This guy who owns the gallery is a big potential contributor of mine. So, if you like a painting, buy it. Live a little?????? Well, I guess you are doing that, aren't you? Bella, how nice to see you! Ms. MacLaine, a pleasure! Thank you. Nice to see you! How is it going, Tom? -Oh, great! Are you going to get out of the ???House and into the Senate? Well, I could use some help... I have a new artist I'd like you to see. From the "Iluminarium" Gallery in California....I think you might like him. I'm quite taken by him. He's Gilbert Williams. A "New Age" artist. Very popular in California. Just catching on now on New York. And this is my personal favorite. What do you think? What is it? The Lincoln Memorial after the flood? What is he trying to say with this? Ah...David! This is David Manning. He's an expert. David, meet Shirley MacLaine and Bella Abzug. How do you do! It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm a big fan of both of you. - Oh, Thanks. In fact, I saw your show on Monday. You were great! Oh, thank you! David can explain this artist. He's a painter himself. On and off... -Are you on or off? Right now I'm off and doing nothing. Well, how can anybody do nothing? It's not easy. What is this all about? I mean, I like it I guess, but I don't understand it Well, the only reason I like this is because the paints are paints with high frequency colors. These colors are high frequency? Yes! These colors are yin colors. Yin? It's the female color, the colors of intuition. Intuition, like in women? Yeah, but all the usually things of intuition is being of feminine characteristic. Would you say that this was a feminist painting? Well, I never thought of it that way... but...yes, I guess, maybe, you could say that it was feminist art. Buy it! You don't know it, but you just contributed to her campaign. I'm glad. I hope she wins. Are you from California? No, I'm not from California, but I just moved back there. Oh, ya? -I've been travelling around for the past couple of years. Really? Where? In Europe, India, Africa...I just got back from Peru...-Peru? I've always wanted to go to Peru. Don't you have the feeling that you always get want you want? Shirley! Could you come over here and pay for this? I want to take schedule. -All right, I'm coming! Well, thanks for ...the conversation. Maybe I'll see you in California; I live in Malibu. I know. I read your book. Ok! Thanks again. Thank you, darling! I thought I'll give the painting to Gerry for his birthday. Where is he gonna hang it? I don't know ...his office, maybe. When you're going back to London? Next week. This is hard for you, isn't it? Ya! "The Prime Minister spoke yesterday at considerable length about the Government sensitivity to the issues of the Third World. I put it to him that there is no more sensitive issue than hunger. People are starving! In many parts of this Globe, when it's now up to the nations of the world who can act, to do something about it now and prevent what I think it will be a disaster of catastrophic proportions." But it could say to be argued that Britain has many more pressing problems at home... unemployment and many....- "Yes, of course, I'm fully aware of Britain's domestic problems and I've spoken on many occasions and proposed creative solutions to these problems and this Government continues to ignore..." Thank you, you're very kind. Happy birthday!...-You remembered. - Ya! Oh, they're lovely! You know, I can never find vases for these things in these places... Let me go up....-"Vases" - Oh, yes, of course. "Vases", how silly of me... We used to live in this area when we were first married... -Hm, did we? And how long will you'll be staying tonight? Till about midnight. And then what happens? Hm, then I'll turn into a pumpkin... I'm glad you can stay, Gerry, cause I thought maybe you'll have to go home on your birthday... No! It's not that important to me. It is, to me! Sit down. Happy birthday! How did you get this on the plane? With great, great difficulty! I had to sweet talk the flight crews...see, and I told them that you and I were lovers and that the entire outcome of your election depended on whether or not I could bring this to you. Well... It's called "Moon Temple" Ahm...I think you should hang it in your private office because...see...this Yin energy.... that will cosmicly assure you of the women's vote. I love the color! It's very high vibrational frequency color, they tell me. What the hell is that? I.... haven't the faintest idea but I had to buy it, so that my friend, Bella Abzug, could get a campaign contribution. She says it's feminist art. She's the one with the hat, isn't she? Ya! She's great! She knows about us? Ya! Sometimes I feel like an xxxxin space. It's ok, Gerry! She's my friend. It's all right! I'm all right. These will be just fine. Thank you! I didn't expect you so early. What's up? My daughter was looking for something in my wardrobe and asked me in front of my wife why my clothes smelled of perfume. It took me so off guard! I acted really guiltily.. Gerry, how was it left? She might have forgotten about it by now....I hope so, anyway... This is the pit ????sneaking around like this.... -Shhh! Hello Mr. Stamford!.....You know her, don't you? Ms. MacLaine, have you two met each other? Shirley MacLaine.... meet Gerry Stamford our next Prime Minister. Really? How do you do? -How do you do? It's really a pleasure! I can't get hungry. The two of you shopping in my neighborhood... Yeah! - And when ??I know seem to be running for Office. I hope you win! Thank you! - Bye! Nice lady, isn't she?

Out on a Limb was an autobiographical book written by Shirley MacLaine in 1983 and adapted for television in 1986. The ABC Television miniseries starred Shirley MacLaine (playing herself), John Heard as "David Manning", and Charles Dance as "Gerry Stamford ". It details MacLaine's journeys through new-age spirituality. We follow MacLaine from California to various locations including New York and Europe, culminating in a life-changing trip to the Andes mountains in Peru. Central characters include "David" who is, according to MacLaine herself, a composite character, "Gerry Stamford", a married man and member of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, with whom MacLaine was having an affair, and real-life close friend and politician, Bella Abzug (played by Anne Jackson).
