Science in Seconds - Climate Change

Science in Seconds Know Everything RANTS - Climate Change Rheanna Sand: The debate around climate change has gone way beyond logic, and has escalated into, basically, a schoolyard bullying match. It's time to bring it down to Earth. The situation can be summed up with a little analogy. Picture 100 people, living in an apartment building. All agree that the amount of toxic fumes inside the building is increasing. Some even admit to dump their toxic waste inside the building, but they say it's necessary and not really a problem, because it's all part of the natural toxic fume cycle. 80 of the people believe that the building is going to explode if nothing is done, while the other 20 say, "Nah, don't worry about it. It's fine, the fumes will go away naturally. It's all part of the cycle." It's worth noting, though, that 15 of these 20 make their money from selling their toxin for a living. So, while the 80 percent are debating the 20 percent as to whether or not the building is going to eventually explode, one important fact seems to be ignored. The toxic fumes are making everyone sick. So, to bring this back to the real world, there might be a valid argument as to whether or not greenhouse gases are going to burn our house down, so to speak. But nobody can deny the fact that dumping pollutants into the air, into the water, and burying it underground is making the planet sick. Even if you can justify polluting the Earth somehow, placing bets on our planet's health is not the smartest play in the book. Preparing for the worst, in this case, is not a waste of time and resources. This is not Y2K. This is not a minor glitch, that's going to be laughed at by future generations. If we **** this up, there will be no future generations. This is a moment of character for all humankind. Wouldn't you like to be on the right side of history?
