>> Hi there. Welcome to the Emotional Eating Psychology Course. I'm thrilled to guide you through this exploration of food, mood, and self. First of all, congratulations on taking this courageous step. As you know, these issues are often complex and uncomfortable, which is why so many people struggle with them for so long. Emotional eating is a sensitive topic for many people and it's common to isolate and suffer in silence. There's a significant need for health coaches right now to help the millions of people out there who want to create a healthy relationship with food. Reflecting on your own relationship with food will be an essential ingredient in building your coaching practice. In the process, you may uncover things about yourself that are eye-opening. Therefore, I applaud your bravery as you dive into this professional and personal journey. To get started, let's review what you'll learn, how this course works, and how to make the most of it. Let's start with what you'll learn. The emotional eating psychology course is divided into two main parts. In part one, the roots of emotional eating will explore the concept of emotional eating, including the contributing factors like stress, body image, personal experiences, and cultural influences. We'll take a look at how to distinguish emotional eating from eating disorders. We'll also explore cravings and how to work with them. In short, we lay the groundwork for part two. In the second part of this course, coaching through emotional eating, we'll explore how you can help clients redefine their relationships with food by sharing with you a variety of tools to utilize as well as using a broad framework that takes bio-individuality into account. We'll also present some ideas for how to support clients who want to gain or lose weight. And last but not least, to boost your success as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, we'll cover how to market yourself to this target audience. Okay, onto how this course works. Just as you guide clients through their personal health journeys, we want to serve as guides for your journey through this course. Acronyms can be helpful. Let me introduce you to the MAPS framework. MAPS stands for material, apply the material to yourself, practice with clients or coaching partners, and send out into the bigger picture and the greater community. This course is broken down into weekly modules. Each module includes learning objectives, so you know what to expect to gain by the end of the module. A short case study, you will follow three people's journeys, three case studies through the emotional eating coaching process, which helps create a more authentic experience. Remember, every client is different. These are just examples of what coaching could look like. We want you to practice the coaching process so that you feel better prepared to coach clients. We'll alternate between these three case studies module by module. And we'll be including two to three video lectures. These comprise the material part of MAPS. As for the other parts, each module contains several handouts. Skill building activities. You'll get to focus inward and apply the materials yourself through self-reflection exercises. We'll provide prompts to help guide you. You'll also get to focus outward and practice the material with others through interactive exercises. These are experiential assignments based on what you learned in that module with the clients or coaching partner. What's a coaching partner? It could be a family member, a friend, or maybe a fellow student from the Facebook group. A recap handout. Consider this the Cliffs Notes version of the module material with bullet points, maybe some diagrams and possibly some supplemental information. One to two exercise handouts. This is typically an exercise that ties the module together. It's another chance to apply the materials yourself. Health coaching requires setting an example of self-development and growth, and coaching is much more meaningful if you do the work that you ask of your clients rather than passively learning. This handout also includes an optional recommended reading list if you wish to deepen your knowledge further on any given topic. These reading lists are great resources to give to clients. And done-for-you versions of the exercises are included that you can simply print out and give to your clients to take home or use with them in session. This is located in the Business Toolkit of your Learning Center. By the way, each done-for-you handout will become available as its corresponding module opens. And finally, each module has a five-question self-assessment quiz, not graded, but just to test your knowledge on what you've learned. Speaking of tests, there are two tests in this course, one at the midpoint, and one at the end. We give you two attempts for each test to achieve a passing score of 70 or higher. A passing grade is required on both tests to receive your graduation certificate. We encourage you to pair up with course mates through the Facebook page to form study groups. You learn more about the tests when the dates approach. For now, just focus on enjoying the learning experience and don't sweat it. Going back to the MAPS idea, we structured the material of this course in order to break a large concept into a much smaller easier to digest form. We've also gone ahead and done a lot of the work for you. In terms of the done-for-you materials, we've provided for you to use with clients. That said, we didn't create this course to give you simple solutions, these issues are complex and we want you to think for yourself throughout this journey. I like to joke that when we wrote this course, we did it so that the only thing you would have to do is implement it. But as you probably can imagine, we can't do all of the work for you. We set you up for success, but at the end of the day, your success ultimately depends on your willingness to implement the information and tools we provide. In other words, it's your job to apply, practice, and send out. As Joshua says, "You can't learn how to ride a bike by reading a book, you have to just get on the bike and do it." The same goes for coaching. The bottom line, knowledge is useless without implementation. After all, you're here for a reason. You're here because you want to change your life and the lives of others. We're here to support you every step of the way. You have access to our exclusive Facebook group, complete with skilled moderators who are in there around the clock to coach and support you. This is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of expert advice, pick our brains and get a little laser-focused coaching on anything that leaves you feeling stuck. Circling back to MAPS one more time, connecting with your IIN community via the Facebook group represents one piece of sending out. We'll typically end lectures with questions that encourage this connection. The second piece of sending out is thinking about who in your life, friends, family, colleagues might benefit from what you learned and sharing it with them. We encourage you to carry this course and the IIN mindset into your life outside of the course and to take opportunities to celebrate your passion for this lifestyle. You're here because you want to contribute to the global wellness movement through a conscious ongoing commitment to health and happiness, right? Take advantage of Facebook to connect with your course mates and receive mentorship and support. This will help you reflect on yourself and fine tune your message and skills so that you can get out there with confidence and continue to spread the ripple effect. So here's the take home. We've set you up for success. We're dedicated to helping you reach your goals, and your commitment to putting this all into action determines your success. The more you put what you're learning into action, the more you get out of it. This emotional eating psychology course is unique because it centers on the idea that your clients are the best experts on themselves. We'll get more into your role as the course progresses, but for now, trust that you are exactly where you need to be to grow as a coach and to help your clients. Your community needs you as does the healthcare system at large. With all that said, let's dive in.
