Rescue groups supporters
and refugees held a demonstration
in central athens to highlight
what they called the increasing
criminalization of sea rescues
and the antimigration policies
of some EU countries.
Some of the protestors lie down
in front of banners that read
"would you save us?" to bring
attention to the problem
of thousands of people who die
each year trying to reach Europe.
The predominant color was orange:
a reference to the lifejackets
usually worn by migrants picked
up in the Mediterranean.
The rally in Athens was just one
event in a series across Europe
organised by the international
movement (Greek word) that
translates cyberage.
The movement is calling the
establishments to safe groups
for refugees, safe harbor and enter
the criminalization of sea rescues
and human conditions for
the refugees upon arrival.
Some also called for the release
or prominent Syrian refugees
Sarah Medina and the Irish
volunteers (Greek word)
currently in Greek custody for
allegedly facilitating refugees
at migrants into Greece.
