On April 25, 1792
a young officer of Engineers
Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle composed
Military to galvanize a song
the French troops who fought
against Austria on the Rhine front.
The "Song of the Rhine Army" was interpreted
by Francois Mireur, a physician from Montpellier
come to bring together volunteers from Montpellier
During their journey through France

Today there are hundreds
versions of what will become the anthem

The agreement had yet enacted

It was banned by Napoleon, Louis XVIII,
