The creation of the Latin American
Federation of Societies of Authors
is of the utmost importance at
the moment in which we are succeeding
in Latin America to begin
to have societies
that are already in
a stage of authorization
to initiate the activities of collection
and the collection in
their respective countries.
This will give us much more
power of representation,
a strength also in the face of
a change of opinion about awareness
of what copyright is in our territory,
in our countries
and how this network of international
solidarity can benefit us.
Today in Brazil we are
celebrating the announcement
of the authorization to start
the activities of collection of copyright
in the territory of our country,
for our rights holders and
for our represented,
the directors of other countries,
with which we already have
contracts of reciprocal representation.
The DBCA, which represents
the repertoire of Brazilian directors,
and GEDAR, which represents
the repertoire of Brazilian writers,
are now ready to begin structuring the
collection activities and is a new stage.
It is a big challenge and
now we need to start a dialogue
with those who use our works,
the users of works, civil society,
all and especially our creators,
that we have the rights and
the rights are there to be our societies.
