Workstyle Freestyle 008 - 'Lizzie'

Hello Hoxbies! Welcome to Workstyle Freestyle with me, Alex Hirst. And with me, Lizzie Penny. And what are we going to be talking about this week, I hear you ask? Well, this week we are going to be talking about Lizzie. Lizzie, we'd like to know your story and what took you to you to the pub one evening, in a slightly inebriated state to talk about starting Hoxby. A few G&Ts... So, I was very lucky, five years ago TODAY in fact to welcome this little chappy into the world. This is my son. Happy Birthday, Finn! This is my son, Finn. And when he was born, I met lots of incredibly talented other parents particularly mums, who I found were dropping out of the workforce altogether, or changing their careers or having to, because they were cutting down their working days because they wanted to spend more time with their family and because they wanted to work around their children and fit their work around their lives, rather than the other way around. And it made me very angry actually. Do you remember the anger, Alex? Because, I felt that it was so unfair, and such a sense of injustice that these talented people should not be able to work in a fulfilling way simply because they wanted to be good parents. And it just doesn't make sense. And so that lead me, after a few months after having Finn to having a few G&Ts with Alex And starting to rant about this particular subject And so we decided to do something about it, and since then I've actually got another picture here... I've got twin girls, who are now two, and actually when I was pregnant with them I had some complications with the pregnancy that meant that yet again that I was very gratful that Alex and I had founded this new way of working that meant that we could work from anywhere and be judged on our output rather than where and when we work. So working parents is one of our causes that we campaign for, and that's where it all started for me. Thank you very much, Lizzie, for sharing. No, it's great, I never get tired of hearing your story. And it's very relatable. There are loads of Hoxbies out there who have a similar story to tell. So, that's Lizzie's story This has been WorkstyleFreestyle, thanks for tuning in. We'll see you next time. Goodbye!
