Module 4 - Parenting And The Power of Acceptance
Class 5 - Accepting Our Differences
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference,"
Reinhold Niebuhr
Sometimes it's really hard for us to accept a
child who's very different than us.
It's much easier to have a rapport and kind
of an easy going with somebody
who's very similar to who we are,
but the gift of having a child is so different
than us
is that I really learn to love to love it.
And when you really learn to love a child who's
so different than you
it really gives you the the muscle and the in the capacity
to actually love another person who is so different than you.
And you can look at somebody and like oh it's so
different than me
but I can see the beauty in that difference.
I can see the beauty in him being so, let's say,
outgoing not like me,
and kind of noisy and loud.
So Ireally learned with my kids, the kids are
so different than me can really teach me
how to not just accept another person
who's different than me but actually
kind of like enjoy it, love it, celebrate it,
And it's a great gift to be really be able to kind of suddenly
enjoy others in a different way
that I could never do before.
"It is not about tolerating differences, or even about accepting differences; in the end, it is about celebrating differences that will heal the world."
Karen Berg
