questions with the passive voice

Hello everybody
In this video we are going to see
how to create questions using the passive voice
First, let's remember how do we create the passive voice
We have this sentence
"The CCTV cameras record the crimes"
Which is in the active voice
So, to pass it to the passive voice
We first, identify the subject
The CCTV cameras
Then the verb: "record"
And the object: "the crimes"
So we put the object at the beginning of the sentence
Then we follow using the TO BE verb
In the proper way
So "are" in this case, because "record" is in the present simple
And "the crimes" is plural
Then, we use the past participle of the verb:
"recorded" in this case
Remember that the past participle is
the third column of the verbs
and that, in the case of regular verbs,
like "record"
we just have to add an "ed" at the end, ok?
And then we follow by using "by"
And we finish adding the subject at the end
So "the crimes are recorded by the CCTV cameras"
Let's see another example
"The burglar stole the famous painting"
So we find the subject, the verb and the object
We put the object at the beginning of the sentence
Then, we use the TO BE verb
"was", in this case, because STOLE is in the past
And "the famous painting" is singular
Then, we use the past participle of the verb "stolen"
is the past participle of "steal"
And we finish adding "by" and the subject
Ok, very good
Now, let's see how do we create the questions with the passive voice
"The crimes are recorded by the CCTV cameras"
This is a sentence in the passive voice already
so we identify the TO BE verb
And we put it at the beginning of the sentence
and, after that,
we add the rest of the sentence
the crimes recorded by the CCTV cameras
"Are the crimes recorded by the CCTV cameras?"
Let's see another one
"The famous painting was stolen by the burglar"
We identify the TO BE verb
In this case, WAS
We put it at the beginning of the sentence
And we add the rest of the sentence, ok?
"Was the famous painting stolen by the burglar?"
Ok
But what if we want to ask WHEN, WHERE, HOW
WHAT, WHY or this type of questions?
We just have to add this particle
At the beginning of the sentence
Before of the verb TO BE
So "when are the crimes recorded by the CCTV cameras?"
for example
or "how was the famous painting stolen by the burglar?"
And now let's see an especial case
because remember that we can use the passive voice when
when we don't know, who committed the action
who made the action or who was the subject
"the bank was robbed last night"
we don't know who robbed the bank, ok?
now we want to ask, who robbed it
so, how do we do it?
we start by using WHO
Then we follow using the TO BE verb
like in the rest of questions
we continue with the object
then the verb
and we finish adding the preposition BY
"Who was the bank robbed by?"
In this case, because we have "last night"
we could add it at the end of the sentence
ok? but it's not necessary
"Who was the bank robbed by last night"?
So this is how we ask
who made the action
using the passive voice
Let's see some examples
we have to complete these questions
with the passive voice
so, what do we need at the beginning?
we need the TO BE verb
And then we need the participle of the verbs
So, souvenirs, which is in plural
and it's in the present, ok?
are souvenirs, sell, the past participle?
sold at the museum?
then, "where is the museum situated?"
when the museum open
we can imagine that the museum
didn't open now
so it has to be in the past
when was the museum opened?
can tickets... buy on the internet
the can questions
are especial
because can is already the verb
and it already gives as the tense
so we need the TO BE verb
but in the infinitive form
and it has to be before of the participle, ok?
this case is special
so can tickets be, and then the participle
of buy, "bought" on the internet
and the last one
photography allow in the museum?
Is photography allowed in the museum?
Let's see some other examples
we have these sentences
and we have to put them in the correct order
to form the questions
so let's first remember
that we always put the WHY, WHAT, WHERE
and that kind of particles at the beginning
so why, then the to be verb WAS
the object, THE CRIMINAL
the verb, SENT and TO PRISON
we don't know who did it
so we don't put it
WHEN, then to be, WERE
the object, THE BANKS
and the verb, ROBBED?
In the next one we have BY and WHO
so it has to be a question like
the one we have seen
asking who has made the action
so remember
WHO, then TO BE
WAS
the object, THE MAN
the verb, KILLED
BY
who was the man killed by?
we are asking who killed the man
and the last one
questions with WHAT
are asking about the OBJECT
so that means that
we are not going to have the object
in the question
ok? we are going to have:
the subject, the verb and the to be
but we don't have the object
so the order would be:
WHAT, then the to be, IS
We don't have the object
so we continue with the verb
what is recorded
and then, we finish with the subject
by the CCTV cameras?
what is recorded by the CCTV cameras?
so, that was it
I hope that you have understood everything
Now, you just have to practice a little bit, ok?
GOOD BYE!
