Charlie, what are we all doing here?
I've brought you all here
to educate you
on EV,
especially you, Snoopy.
[♪ The Charlie Brown Theme by Vince Guaraldi ♪]
- What's EV?
- EV stands for Embedded Value,
a measure of how well
the company is doing.
So where does
this money come from, Chuck?
They work out the expected profits
and when they'll be available to shareholders.
How on earth do they do that?
It sounds pretty complicated.
- Yes, they need actuaries.
- Actors?
No, silly. Actuaries.
And they're quite different
from actors,
and they don't just sit around
making movies all day.
So if a shareholder knows that
a company adds capital into its EV,
does that make them feel
more secure?
Yes, it's like the way this blanket
makes me feel so secure.
The one thing I don't get is,
how is it different
from what companies already do?
Unlike what they already do,
EV gives a truer value of the company.
It can be shared with the market
and can affect their stock prices.
And is that all EV is good for?
No, silly.
It tells them which products
are doing good and which are bad,
and it helps them track their performance.
So do other companies do
the same thing?
Most companies in the UK
are already doing this,
and now even more are joining in.
- Well, that sounds like a great idea to me.
Yes, it's a great idea.
Snoopy, all you do is eat and sleep.

So there you have it—Snoopy and his friends
have learned all about the EV project,
and in a nutshell, EV is a value
which gives an indication
of how well the company is doing
by measuring the profits available
available for its shareholders.
MetLife needs to complete this initiative
by May 2016
so that everyone
in the magical land of MetLife
can live happily ever after.
