My Passion, by Kindar McNamee Climbing is my passion. This is a video of me climbing in 2017. More about this climb later, but first a bit about my passion. I climb with the Swarm Youth Climbing Team. The team trains at a climbing gym called the Hive Climbing Gym. The Swarm trains on Monday from 4:30 to 7:30, Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00, and Saturday from 9:30am to 1:00pm. I train on Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:30 with the Ambassadors, which is what the older Hive competitive team is called. I also climb on Sundays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm with a different team called The Rock Wall Team. The Swarm Youth Climbing Team does conditioning which includes improving muscular endurance, muscular strength, endurance, doing exercises that will improve my balance and aerobic endurance. I also train skills with the Hive team which includes doing lots of coordination moves on the wall, working on powerful moves and getting better at dynos which is jumping to other holds while you are on the wall. I climb in a category called Youth A. This is the fourth category of five. The category order is Youth D, Youth C, Youth B, Youth A, Junior, Open. The categories are decided by the year you were born in. For each category except for Open and Youth D you spend two years in and then you move to the next category. Youth D cannot compete at Nationals. Youth C cannot compete at the Youth World Championships. Youth B cannot compete in Open. Open is from Youth A and older. Youth A and Junior are in Open and Youth A or Junior. In this video I am doing difficulty climbing. Difficulty is one of three climbing disciplines. The other two are bouldering which is my favourite and speed which is my least favourite. Difficulty is when you climb a very tall climb. You have a rope so you don�t die. There are two types of difficulty climbing: lead and top rope. Top rope is what Youth D and C do. This is when the rope is already attached to the wall. Lead is when you have to clip the rope into the quickdraws. Lead climbing is about having good endurance. Each individual move isn�t hard, but together they are because you get tired throughout the climb. Bouldering is when you climb a small wall without a rope. You have mats underneath you so you don�t die if you fall. The wall is about four to five metres high. Each individual move is hard. There are also more style of climbs in bouldering like coordination, dyno, slab, overhang, volume and strength. Speed is when you climb the same route. The route is always the same. You are either on top rope or on an auto belay. You have try to get to the top of the wall as fast as you can. The fastest person wins. There are two routes side by side that are identical to each other. There is also something called Classic Speed which is very similar except the climbs are different from the regular and from each other. Now, about this climb, a difficulty climb. This is at the Difficulty National Championships in 2017. This is the semi-final climb. I was the only climber to reach the top. That result in the semi finals is what got me to the finals, where I finished first and became the National Youth B Climbing Champion. It feels so good to come down from the wall when you have reached the top. Climbing is my passion.
