[rocket boom] [♪ Rocketboom opening theme music ♪] ROFL Con [♪ Jazzy soft music playing ♪] Hey! How's it going? Kyle MacDonald Sarah Meyers I'm here with Kyle MacDonald, AKA "Red Paperclip Man". Tell me about your book, first of all. Well, I wrote a book. Strangely enough, it's called One Red Paperclip, just like the website. And it's all about how I started with the red paperclip, and traded up to a house in 14 trades. The book covers everything between the idea right up to the house. Yeah, so it's kind of like a game right? You take an object that you like -- like a red paperclip -- and then you go to somebody and you say, "Hey, what can I trade for this? What can you give me?" And then you keep on going until you get something bigger and better right? That's right. You can start with something real small, and if you work hard enough -- make enough trades -- you can end up with something a lot bigger and even better. Tell me more about the phenomenon of this game. Did you have any idea from the beginning that this would be so big? All I was looking for was people to trade with. I posted one red paperclip on Craigslist, and all I really wanted to do was trade with people. I had no idea that it would get into mainstream media, or that a thousand people would get into it. My website got like 7 to 8 million hits. I thought maybe 50 to 100 people would do it, because I only really needed a few people to trade with. Who is the most famous person who traded with you? I guess it's a toss up between Corbin Bernsen, from L.A. Law and Major League, -- I didn't know who he was -- he's actually the world's largest snow globe collector. So I had one, and I said, "Corbin, I'll trade you this." and he said, "Well, here's my offer." It was a role in a movie. It turns out a lot of people want to be actors so I got some pretty good offers for that. One of them which ended up being the house. But I also traded -- I didn't trade with Alice Cooper -- I traded with his employee, Leslie, for an afternoon with her boss, Alice Cooper. Obviously you're life doesn't revolve around the red paperclip, or does it? I'm actually looking for these guys. My brother sent me this picture, and he doesn't know where he got it from. He found it online. If you go to the website, You can see -- well actually a poor quality version of this picture -- but it's a bit of an international mystery, we're trying to track these guys down.
