Insects chirp as the family sleeps. A lamplight outside illuminates the edge of Huyền's mosquito net where she sleeps.

Lê Huyền is a young woman who lives and works on her family's sand barge on the Mekong River Delta near Mỹ Khánh village,Vietnam. This film is part of the Global Lives Project, documenting 24-hours in the lives of people around the world.
Huyền wakes up at 5am to begin work: taking her turn to drive the barge, buy produce from river boats that pull up, cook meals, and help with the operations. Life on the Mekong Delta revolves much around the river, and the river is vital to its economy. By midday, a dredging machine removes earth from the bottom of the river, and loads it onto her barge. The sand is transported to construction projects in riverside villages. On this day, the delivery is to her home village a few hours down the river. Many of these hamlets, including her home along the river, are only accessibly by small tributaries. On the occasions in which she returns to her village, Huyền lives with a large extended family.
