Over the mirrorlike water surface,
the suspension bridge stretches.
In the morning haze, the crowns
of the broad-leaved trees gather
into a dense scenery over the beach,
where the heron remains stand-still
in the shadow line.
His attention is fixed on the glistening
water outside the sedge belt,
where a brood of tadpoles
crams in the surface.
The water is shallow
and in constant motion.
Over the red-yellow sand,
two black-green tenches cruise
with broad fins in leisurely strokes.
To and fro, they vacuum-clean
over the warm sand
while the sun rises
over the Tuna temple spire.
In the broad-leaved tree forest,
trushes, doves and warblers echo,
and from the dead aspens
on the steep sandy riverbanks,
a cacophony of thousand
morning disputes falls and rises.
It is the jackdaws and the starlings
taking possession of the day.
If you have the opportunity
to sit there in a canoe,
you will conveniently seek yourself
toward the heart of the valley.
This singing and vividly
simmering water maze
with its sunken trunks
and jungle river banks
mostly shows similarity
to the everglades.
The water becomes more biting cold
as further you pass through,
but freezes, it never will, not even
in the most stone cold winter.
