Cinco de mayo is a mexican holiday that is celebrated in America and Mexico.
Cinco de mayo got it’s roots in america during the civil war and from mexican immigrants.
Cinco de Mayo is not the celebration of the Mexican independence,
but instead the celebration of the victory at
Puebla,
a small town in Mexico where a small band of mexican troops stopped a large French army.
During the holiday many mexican and mexican americans celebrate the victory by eating
mexican food like tacos, nachos, black Beans, chicken tostadas, churros, and flan.
It is also celebrated by listening to mariachi music , going to festivals hitting piñatas, and drinking margaritas.
In Mexico , Cinco de Mayo is seen mainly in the state of Puebla , although elsewhere celebrations countries also take place .
Traditions include military parades, reenactments of the Battle of Puebla and other festive events.
For many Mexicans, however, May 5 is a day like any other: It is not a federal holiday, so offices, banks and stores remain open.
There is a major festival here in Atlanta on Cinco de mayo. The festival lasts all day and have music and food.
