I'm here with Joann Needleman, financial services attorney, and board member at the CFPB.
Question I have for you today is, what's the future of the CFPB?
That's a great question, Carl.
Since the Trump administration has come into office, there has been a lot of speculation
on whether Dodd-Frank's going to be appealed, and included in that whether there's going to be a CFPB.
And it certainly appears to me from the last several months that CFPB is not going away.
And I have to say in some ways that's a good thing.
I don't agree 100% with all the CFPB has done, but I do agree and have liked the fact that there has been a regulator around
for people to understand who the good guys are from the bad, and especially in the home-buying market.
It's been really important for first-time home buyers to understand what they should be looking for when they're purchasing a house,
what their requirements are when they're trying to get a mortgage.
So to that extent, the CFPB has done a lot of good work.
It's been very costly for the industry, and so I would hope there will be some of the rollback of more reasonable regulations,
clear regulations so that everyone in the industry can understand,
but I have to tell you, I think the CFPB is here to stay.
Thank you, Joann. So, you heard it here first. Maybe some changes this year coming, but it's here to stay. Thank you.
