[CLICK 2 SCIENCE pd] [Designing a Safe Space for Animals: Modeling Science and Engineering Processes] >> Which animals are inside the desert dome that has the net or has some type of closure? >> We saw like a lizard, um, behind the net and we saw just like little free birds just running around. >> Okay, what else? >> Um, the road runner is behind the net, so it wouldn't run away. >> Frontline staff and volunteers encourage youth to act as a scientist or engineer when they model the procedures such as observation, enquiry, brainstorming, and testing. Watch as staff work with youth on designing an animal enclosure and model using the engineering design principles to help guide them through the process. Pay particular attention to the ideas youth present and the challenges they have in their designs. >> Making progress here. >> You guys ready to start working on building the dome? >> Yes. >> So we need to think about how do we make it tighter so that it's not so wobbly? Okay, Stephanie has an idea. Stephanie, how are you going to make it tighter? Let your teammates see what you made there. Hold it up so they can see it. Do you guys think you can make it better, what she did? >> Yes. >> All right, show me how you make it better. >> Pull a little bit of the other one, then like tie up more lower so it can stay down. >> Good job. Way to go. Team work. >> Is this piece gonna close up that space? >> No. >> Okay, look at the dome. Look at the dome. How many spokes are there on each of those sets? Does this one match? >> No. [CLICK 2 SCIENCE pd] [Designing a Safe Space for Animals: Modeling Science and Engineering Processes] [filmed in collaboration with:] [OMAHA'S HENRY DOORLY ZOO & AQUARIUM]
