Welcome to week 6 of our series. This week we will be doing our conclusion chapter. As we look at the five essential elements of health, this one really wraps it all up, when Pastor Rick really launched this series a while back he said that in order to enjoy all the things that God has for us in our lives He wanna have to start with the area of physical health. So these last 40 days we are really on that journey and we've been looking at So these last 40 days we are really on that journey and we've been looking at our relationship with faith and food and fitness and and done in the community of a friend. But now is the time to say Well, wellness is not just for wellness sake alone, but wellness for really finding our sweet spot in life Well, wellness is not just for wellness sake alone, but wellness for really finding our sweet spot in life for how we are each uniquely designed and created by God to follow his exact purpose and plans for us. So as you get together at the right time to brainstorm to toss around this ideas of really uniquely you feeling good enough to respond to God's calling for your life to really find that sweet spot feeling good enough to respond to God's calling for your life to really find that sweet spot in to be able to give back and leave your specific mark in the world Thank you so much for joining us for this series, have a great time together as we launch into your groups, your time with pastor Rick and beyond. Thank you so much. The best part of the Daniel Plan to me is that it offers is that it offers a choice to be healthy, I mean, I'm not the healthiest person out there is that it offers a choice to be healthy, I mean, I'm not the healthiest person out there is that it offers a choice to be healthy, I mean, I'm not the healthiest person out there and I have those days that all I want eat is junk food, because it is good, but at the same time I realize that is not good for your body. Temptation, you know, having the junk food in the house. It's hard So we allow ourselves what April calls The 10%, 90 10 We allow ourselves to go to the that soft yogurt place around the corner and so we'll indulge with that and that's okay, you have to feel guilty about it you do it, you enjoy it, and then you back on track on the next day so in that way you prevent binging It can be hard by the pier pressure of your friends and what kind of food that you choose to eat. It can be hard by the pier pressure of your friends and what kind of food that you choose to eat. they are around you so but if you trying to be honest with yourself, and no where outcome you know what you chose for yourself. You try to choose The Daniel Plan food instead of junk food. Fitness for us is fun, I mean, plays a big role in how you feel, but also how you think with the Daniel plan you don't... you find movement you love. is it boot camp, is it walking, is it kayaking is it playing tennis, whatever it might be there's... it's a personal prescription you know Yeah, my husband loves to ride a Harley and so sometimes I'll jump on the back of that but you know the kids have their sports at school which are really important, you know the kids have their sports at school which are really important, but I think that it's a theme, it's a predominant theme in our life that contributes to not only our physical health but also our mental health. And God designed our bodies to move and to thrive with the foods that we put in them so I mean it's just God's prescription for your health! Hi everybody. In this closing session of our Daniel Plan series I wanna talk to you about how do you finish well I mean you're off to a great start you made it this far, congratulations you need to know how do you keep moving forward because this video series is ending but, the changes that you're making we want those to become a permanent lifestyle. If you want to accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself you've got to make these strategies a priority in your life Here they are, number 1 write these down. 1st, I must to remove all distractions if I wanna finish well, if I want to accomplish the goals I set for my life I have to remove all the distractions that keep me from getting to the end. Hebrews 12:1 says I like this: "Let us strip off anything that slows us down or... ...holds us back... and let us run with patience... the particular race that God set before us." And did you notice Paul says strip of anything that slows you down, in other words, eliminate the unnecessary baggage. Simplify your life. Only do what really counts. This is the principle of subtraction, Only do what really counts. This is the principle of subtraction, that you actually accomplish more by doing less. You know, as a pastor, I've come to the conclusion that the number one thing that keeps people from becoming what God wants them to be is their past. It's like trying to drive a car while looking in the rearview mirror, You're gonna crash. Don't let your past distract you Isaiah 43:18, very simple verse, and it says this "Forget the former things: don't dwell on the past." In Philippians 3:13 the Apostle Paul says this "Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead... ...I press on to reach the end of the race." You've got to remove all the distractions to make it to the finish line. Number 2: I need remember the reason and the reward. First, I remember the reason I'm doing what I'm doing in other words, I'm doing this for the glory of God I'm doing this for Jesus sake. So, I remember the reason, and second, I remember the reward what's the reward of sticking with the Daniel plan? Oh! Many: better physical health, more strength and energy, a sharper mind to talk with God, deeper friendships stronger faith. So I focus on these things, on my purpose, not my problems you know, I have a poster in my office that says this: Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off the goal. And if you want to accomplish your goals, you have to remember: the reason and the reward. Number 3: to stay consistent I must renew myself daily. to last over the long haul, you have to change the way you recharge yourself and you have to know how to recharge yourself physically and spiritually and emotionally and mentally. 2 Corinthians 4:16 says "We do not become discouraged because our spiritual being is renewed day by day." Psalms 94:19 says this, "Lord when doubts fill my mind and when my heart is in turmoil, "Lord when doubts fill my mind and when my heart is in turmoil, ... quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer." You know just a quiet time for a minute or two in the middle of the day can actually change your mood and change your response. Now I want you to circle the phrase "quiet me" in your study guide. Are you ever quiet during the day? Do you ever have just be quiet, without listening to radio, television, iPod or other people? Let me give you a tip: once a day and encourage you go out in your back yard or close your office door, or even just sit in your car, and just be quiet for five minutes and just tune in to God. Just stop and say: "God, I need a timeout, I need to tune into you again and I want to focus on you." And you just take a few minutes and learn to be quiet. Now, why am I telling you this? Because maintaining new habits is hard, and the stress can make you slip back in your old ways. You can start thinking: well, maybe it's not just a good idea after all, maybe this Daniel plan isn't all it's cracked up to be, maybe I should give up on this new lifestyle, maybe I should just coast for the next couple of months well let me remind you that, when you're coasting you're always headed downhill well let me remind you that, when you're coasting you're always headed downhill and you're going in the wrong direction. So how do you defeat those doubts. When you begin to doubt yourself, or to doubt that you can change, I want you to remember these three things: remember God's goodness yesterday, God's presence today and God's promises for tomorrow, when you do that, you don't need to doubt, you don't need to be discourage, you need to be distracted, you renew yourself daily. Here's the fourth thing to make it to the finish line if I want accomplish my goals and reach the end of the race, I must resist discouragement. I must resist Discouragement is something that must be resisted... if I'm gonna make it to the end the race. The Bible says this: "Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while, -by the way that is not immediately- after a while we will reap a harvest a blessing if we don't get discouraged and we don't give up." Discouragement is the enemy of your goals. If he can discourage you he has neutralized you. You can become ineffective. God cannot use discourage people. Why? Because discouraged people are the opposite of people of faith. and God uses people who have faith. When I am discouraged, I start saying "it can't be done." Well, that's exactly the opposite of saying: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" Some of you may be discouraged right now. I want to say something to you: It may sound mean but it's not mean, it's the truth and I say this in love. If you are discouraged right now it's because you are choosing to be discouraged, You're choosing to think discouraging thoughts. Discouragement is always a choice and you have a choice to change your mind, remember we talked about that in a session on focus You don't have to be discouraged, nobody's forcing you to be discouraged, discouragement, discouraged feelings come from discouraged thinking, discouraged thoughts and You can't always control your emotions, you can't. You can control your thoughts and at any single time you can choose what you focus on. Finally, number five, this is the one that's the capstone of them all. I must rely on Christ. Now you can't do this by human will power alone! the Bible says "For God is working in you giving you the desire... and the power - the desire and the power - to do what pleases him". Philippians 2:13 The Bible also promises in Philippians chapter 1 "... God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow ... in his grace, until his task within you is finally finished" So focus on Christ, not on your failures focus on Christ, not on your frustrations. Focus on Christ, not on your flaws, or your fears, or your flubs Failures are simply an opportunity to learn. Let's pray together Would you bow your heads. would you pray this prayer in your mind as we wrap-up this video series together? Dear God. I realize that you made me for your purpose and that you have a race that is particular to me that its unique to me it's custom made for me that you want me to run. I wanna make it to the finish line I want my life to count, so forgive me for all those times I've gotten distracted I want my life to count, so forgive me for all those times I've gotten distracted Help me to lay aside the distractions of life. Help me to resist discouragement, Help me to renew myself daily By spending time with you and just being quiet and learning the things that recharge my emotional batteries. Help me to rely on your power to do what you want me to do and and accomplish what you want me to accomplish with my life Most of all Jesus, help me to remember how much you love me and to focus on you to rely on you in every moment of my life not just in my physical health, but in my emotional, in my spiritual in my relational health, in my financial health, in my mental health, in every area have life, and I'm trusting you and I expect you to help me in the days ahead in every area have life, and I'm trusting you and I expect you to help me in the days ahead to make it to the finish line. In Jesus name. Amen Well, I hope you've enjoyed this series of my part with you, You still have Dee to listen to. But I just want to say thank you for doing the Daniel plan with me. God bless you. I'll be praying for you. We're so glad to be back with you today. I'm joined by my dear friend Jimmy Pena Good to be back. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you so much. And we are going to be working together today on really covering what to do now. We're at week 6, and we have some amazing motivational tips... to help us move forward on this journey for improved health. So Jimmy, when we're really looking at next step in weeks 6 We're really looking at key ways that they can renew themselves daily. Practical applications and I'd love to start with a few thoughts on that. Yes, it's about remembering. it's about abundance and not deprivation. It's very important that we they we embrace the things we've learned throughout the Daniel Plan. All the pillars, we have to embrace those things and apply them to our daily lives. What works for you. What you found in the food. What you found in the fitness that you love to do in its gonna create habits doing, What you found in the fitness that you love to do in its gonna create habits doing, That's what's important on a daily basis because that's gonna make the difference... from this point forward. it's when what you've internalized what you 've embraced and harnessed... for yourself that's going to make a big difference. Okay what I heard you say is about abundance, not deprivation. I also heard you say What is the best exercise? What's the one you love. I've heard a nutritionist say the same thing: what's the best foods to eat, well really it's really about learning to love foods that can love you back. It's really like trying and exploring whether it's in the area of fitness, food, and in the area of your relationship with God. What things are working for you? And that's what we really want to focus on in this time together. And what really are the things that replenish your soul, your heart, your mind, your body what are the things that give you energy. Add them to you. What are the things that are taking away and try to eliminate those. Absolutely, you know when you find what works for you it's gonna... it what you're going to enjoy doing, what you gonna it would create habits That's gonna change the body's, gonna change your mind, your heart how you how you react on a daily basis to those obstacles and how your health helps you tackle the day because we need our health to, to storm the gates we need our health to serve the communities, to serve the church. So we need those steps at a time you said it, it's about abundance: it's about, it's about living abundantly and when we take it a step at a time that makes all the difference in our lives. and when we take it a step at a time that makes all the difference in our lives. And I think when we're able to focus on abundance, not about taking everything out of my pantry that isn't good for me. not about taking everything out of my pantry that isn't good for me. Or thinking about trying to run a marathon but I don't even like to run it's really about exploring, a lot of grace in the process of saying, What do I like to do to move. What are things that can work for me. What are some new foods that I can explore that are actually going to give me energy, so that eight o'clock and at nine I'm still feeling good. So it's our invitation to you to really during this curriculum there will be a section where you can write down... your energy gains and your energy drains. and it can be a platform for your goal setting. To think through, to have a reflective time. To say "what really have I learned in these 6 weeks that are rejuvenating and put more of those things in To say "what really have I learned in these 6 weeks that are rejuvenating and put more of those things in and what are a few obstacles that might be getting away that I can little by little takeout and what are a few obstacles that might be getting away that I can little by little takeout Now, the little by little section I'd like to key in with you because you have helped thousands of people on on this journey toward health. we have a really step-by-step approach that we've work together on with you, with our doctors, our other wellness experts. speak to our audience about that step-by-step approach. You know that, the step-by-step approach is so important because... the body will only change according to the level at which you stress it: it's called the overload principle. It's the same thing of how we apply God's Word day in day out applying God's word helps us grow helps us change and we can monitor that. When we monitor our physical health... through the tools of the Daniel plan, we can change and modify an grow and continue to make those kinds of improvements. But it is a step-by-step approach so we can look back what worked for me, what didn't work, what am I really enjoying And when we see those failures we can change things in the past And when we see those failures we can change things in the past The good thing about it is the Lord sees the heart, the Lord sees the effort It's not about succeeding, it's not about that success. Like we said at the beginning: it's not about the mirror it's about the one we're trying to mirror Like we said at the beginning: it's not about the mirror it's about the one we're trying to mirror That's the important thing we can remove that burden of perfection and just serve him, serve others and what we've learned through the Daniel Plan, helps us, and enables and, empowers us to do so. Right, and one thing I loved that you said it's not about perfection, We have a saying here that it's not about perfection, it's really about the process. And it's a process full of grace. We really look at failures failures not as so much as a set back but a comeback, a setup for your success. I think Dr. Amen talks about just make a u-turn when you're in your car your GPS doesn't yell at you and you know call you names. "You're going the wrong direction, you're going the wrong way" so if you've gotten a little off-track, you've had a few set-backs during your 6 weeks that's really our encouragement to you to have that be a gracious time of learning that's really our encouragement to you to have that be a gracious time of learning For me, I love to be able to look at those times as just... where do I need more support in my life? You know, is it, am I getting too stressed? Not having enough sleep, do I need more food options in my pantry, do I need my cubicle at work a little bit more stocked, whatever it is, to take those learnings to be a next step for you on this journey. You know, its it's so important too to remember like the pastor has has reminded us that God doesn't love us more if we if we succeed at it or fail at it, and ask forgiveness for it. But we should be doing one or the other, In the Daniel Plan, and ask forgiveness for it. But we should be doing one or the other, In the Daniel Plan, helps us give those daily reminders of: What is it we're doing it for? What's the perspective? And so when we apply it on a daily basis we're on our knees in prayer, we're reading God's word, we're going through the the curriculum it just frees us up and it helps us conquer those things on a daly basis, the practical way, like you always like to tell everybody. Okay, the one thing about Jimmy is, and we've talked a lot about this plan Okay, the one thing about Jimmy is, and we've talked a lot about this plan and things that we love. It's really combining faith as the foundation, and then many practical tools to be able to move forward in our health. and then many practical tools to be able to move forward in our health. And as you move forward we really encourage you to stay connected to your group that you're involved with. That accountability, encouragement can make such a big difference That accountability, encouragement can make such a big difference We also have weekly emails you can sign up for on-going tools. You'll see Jimmy's face his smiling mug (face) on our website and lots of good fitness tips along the way as addition to some devotionals and we have a great social media that can give you lots of tips and inspiration along the way, so we hope that you can plug in, stay with your group, stay motivated, this really will be the beginning a journey towards abundant life, improved health, as Jimmy's encouraged us as well. Thank you so much for joining at. Let this be a great time together as a group.
