I am delighted today to announce another very important milestone
in the progress of our New gTLD Program.
Today we’re announcing that after months of reviewing excellent proposals
by very good providers for our new EBERO process,
we have selected the three finalists
and we are proceeding with them.
Now, to remind everyone, the EBERO process, which stands for the Emergency Back-End Registry Operators, is a process that ensures that in the hopefully rare case that a registry fails, all the registrants that had used that registry are brought back into a mode of operation rapidly. This is a very important activity that ensures the stability of the DNS and provides the public with important continuity.
Now, the EBERO process, which will be introduced as part of the New gTLD Program, will be available later this year in time for the introduction of these New gTLDs. Now, the three finalists are CNNIC, based in China, Neustar, based in the U.S., and Nominet, in the UK, providing us geographic distribution that serves all of the users globally, and frankly, these three entities are superb entities that for many years have proven their operational capability and we believe they are ready to make EBERO a reality.
