Emma's Cancer Trials Journey

Hadn't long turned forty
when I found the lump in my left breast.
There had been a couple of warning signs, but I had literally ignored them.
Went to my doctor within two days of finding it.
Within ten days I had my diagnosis
and my surgery, I had a partial mastectomy.
Went on then to have chemotherapy. I had five months of chemotherapy,
and then I had twenty sessions of radiotherapy.
I read an article about a drug trial for breast cancer.
I spoke to my doctor about it, and I was eligible for it.
The one concern I had was that my hair had started to grow back,
and would my hair fall out again with this trial drug
which obviously it hasn't.
So I'm nearly a year on the trial now,
my quality of life is great.
I get up every morning. I'm a busy mom with three kids.
My energy levels can sometimes be low,
but that can also be just the fact that I've gone through cancer treatment.
I would say to somebody who wants to start a trial
just to ask their doctor and initially just ask that question
to see what can be done for them.
Give it a shot, take one day at a time.
