Trinity Sunday
6-03-2012
Today we are celebrating Trinity Sunday
because Trinity is a word that we as the Church use
to describe the God of Scripture.
The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
in one God. Three persons
in one God.
And throughout the years of the Church, it has come up
with ways to kind of show people what the Trinity is
like. Can any of you think of an example of
how the Church uses something
for the Trinity. Do you Sophia?
What would be a symbol of the Trinity?

You know you mentioned the word apple, and some people
do use the apple as a way of describing the Trinity.
Because the apple has a skin on the outside
right? A peeling? Yes,
do you eat the peeling? No.
Usually we peel it off. And then on the inside is
the white part of the apple. Do you eat that part?
That's the good part. And then in the middle part,
is the part that has the seeds. Do you
eat the seeds? NO. See ...
so it's three very different things. A peeling,
apple flesh, and seeds.
Three things making up one piece of fruit.
So some people have used that as an example
for the Trinity. That's good!
Sometimes we use a triangle;
so three sides making up a triangle.
Sometimes we use a shamrock.
Everybody know what a shamrock is? Three leaves on one little
plant ... showing the Trinity.
Because that's who our God is. And so
one of the things that we want to remember today is that
our God is very special in that respect.
That there are three persons in one God
and we worship them all the same.
They're all God; we worship them equally.
And we wanna remember that. So in The Purple Bag this morning
there is something to help you remember the Trinity.
Who would like to look in The Purple Bag this morning?
Let's let ... Brendon.
Let's let ... Brendon.
That's what it is, Brendon.
There's nothin' else in there.
Can you see what those are?
Here let Pastor hand out one
for all of you if he can get this open.
for all of you if he can get this open.
Well it's not money.
But it looks like money. It's a little coin.
And this little coin ... you can put it in your pocket,
you could put it on a necklace,
and what you see is there are three circles ...
so there you got a pocket. See there are three circles
that come together and form kind of a triangle
in the middle. Three circles representing God the Father,
God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. All working together
to save us and to bless us.
And this will help remind us
of why our God is special, and that He made us special
by saving us through His Son Jesus Christ.
Any questions to the Trinity this morning? [Sophia speaks]
That's a pretty necklace. You could make a necklace out of
this, too, if you didn't wanna keep it in your pocket.
Lots of options that you and your mom and dad can
figure out. So you guys can go back to your moms and dads and
we'll join together in our Hymn-of-the Day: Hymn 195.
