How would you separate the components in a mixture of
iron, chalk and salt from one another.

Let us conduct an activity to separate the
components of this mixture.
We have a mixture of iron fillings, chalk powder and salt.
We need bar magnet, filter paper, funnel
tripod stand, beaker and a petri dish.
First bring a bar magnet near the mixture several times.
The iron fillings cling to the magnet
We have thus, separated the iron-fillings from the mixture.
Now, dissolve the remaining mixture in the water.
Stir the solution well.
The solution has become white because
chalk powder doesn't dissolve in water and remains suspended.
Place a filter paper on a beaker and filter the solution.
Keep the separated component or residue in another petri dish.
The residue is made of the insoluble chalk.
The beaker now contains water, with dissolved salt.
Using different methods, one magnetization
and the second, filtration we have separated the different components.

What method do you think
we should use to extract the salt from the salt water mixture?
