Life has been good, up until the, well since COVID hit.
Daily day, get up, go to work. Driving a bus, public transportation.
Picking up passengers.
You got to pick up passengers, let em board through the rear of the bus and let em off through the rear of the bus.
You can't have that interacting as you'd usually do when the first person a person see on the bus is the bus operator.
I just get on my microphone and try to tell them a little joke to cheer them up,
and make them a little bit pleased.
I was driving down Telegraph one day, and this guy was at the hamburger stand.
He wasn't bothering nobody, wasn't begging but he was drinking a milkshake out the garbage, eating food out the garbage.
People on the bus was laughing.
I immediately stopped the bus.
Turned it off, went over the the guy.
Took him up to the window.
I said, "Man, order anything you want."
I got him everything he wanted and I gave him $5.
And when I got back to the bus, all the people that was laughing,
they said, "aw man, that was mighty nice."
I said well, you know I been there.
And if you eating out the garbage can, you hungry.
A lot of these stories, I been through.
And that particular story, I told people my message was, that could've been Jesus.
Jesus could've been testing you.
You know, do unto others.
I love the job, cause you meet different kinds of people.
Rise means to me that you have to step up.
Like, rise to the occasion.
That's rising.
My name is James and I'm a transit worker.
