Hi, my name is Marilyn Deutsch, and I definitely remember Horn & Hardart.
Because, when I was little, from the time I was in a carriage, I remember my mother pushing me
in the stroller, and my brother walking by every Tuesday night when my father worked at night.
We would go to Horn & Hardart in Northeast Philadelphia.
Every week we ordered the same thing.
I ordered a hamburger steak, spaghetti and rice, of course that is interesting, because now I eat healthy.
And, I had the chocolate cupcakes for dessert.
The thing about that Horn & Hardart, it had a counter where people served you and it had the Automat.
So, it was real fun. And, then growing up, and we did that every single week during my childhood.
Then, growing up, my grandmother lived in Center City and that Horn & Hardart actually had a bar.
And, my grandmother would put on her ratty fur stole, and her high heels
and I would go with her to Horn & Hardart at the bar, somewhere in Center City, I don't remember where it was.
So, if you would have asked me, probably until I was 16, my very favorite restaurant
and the restaurant I went most frequently to was Horn & Hardart.
