1 BIG PICTURE - Taking Artistic Ownership of Your Acting Career

Actors are so hungry
for connection. And actors don't really take
responsibility for that, they don't create things,
They wait for people to say, "you, we choose you, you come work with us
and we will create this together." So it's like--it's how actors take
artistic leadership and artistic ownership
of their own journeys and their own careers
and that's tough for them. Because if you can actually learn to give,
then you can walk into an audition and be generous,
you know? If you can find your voice and your--
passion and your fire
then you can bring that into your work and do that with a piece before
you audition and not worry about getting the job, or doing it right or--
impressing somebody, you know? You take ownership of that
and that's huge for actors. I mean, I think it's huge for all artists,
but actors are so dependent on other people that it's--you know, they don't
really allow themselves that. It's self-empowerment
in a way. And that's what makes me really happy right now, is to be able
to get actors back to a place
where they're doing the kind of work
that they imagined that they could do
when they were first inspired, when that spark hit, when that
thing said, "this is what's important to me." I mean, they do it 'cause they love it
