Countdown to ONE

We haven't learned yet that happiness is going to found not in fighting each other but in joining hands and trying to climb out of this swamp of human selfishness that we find ourselves in, instead of fighting over the real estate. I think we're living in a time where a lot of people have a lot of things on their minds, like, "How do I make a difference?", but why the idea of making an independent film? I don't know. At 6:45 a.m. on April 13, 2002, a middle-aged father of three from Detroit suddenly awoke from a sound sleep with a strange notion to make an independent film exploring the meaning of life. As a mystic you see how things change first in the inner. There's a law that everything that happens in life first constellates on the inner planes. For example, this movie you are doing first constellated as an idea, inwardly. It was given to you as an idea. It came from somewhere within. But in order for a dream to become a reality, it requires inspiration. And, for me, that inspiration was found at the click of a television remote. PBS was airing Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth," and with three words, the journey began. Follow your bliss... And as I look back now, I have to question myself, Why? Why would a middle-aged dad from Detroit with absolutely no experience in filmmaking possibly think he could gain access to some of the world's greatest priests, rabbis, and imams? As I look at their faces now, I am amazed. Indian yogis, masters from the East, African kings, Catholic monks, Buddhist nuns, Native American medicine men, great minds, cultural icons, authors, celebrated thinkers, people working at a very high level on the international stage, knowing only that our project was about Oneness, on the power of that energy alone, they opened the doors and let us in. And with all that love and positive energy, we just knew that something special was going on. And then, things just took off. First screened in a small 35 seat theater in Detroit Michigan, interest in the film soon began to grow. Within months, media coverage of the remarkable interest in the movie prompted the films opening in sold-out theaters across the United States. Something was happening. People wanted to come together and remember something they had always known: that we are all ONE. Now the film can be seen across the globe on six continents in nearly 100 countries, translated into many languages, as hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life are being drawn by the film's message of Oneness. A Buddhist, a Hindu, a Jew, a Muslim, an animist, an atheist, east, west, north, south, up, and down. All people, there are hundreds of languages, probably hundreds of races that exist in our world today, the fact remains that we are all One. We are all One. We are One. We are One. 7 6 5 4 3 2 ONE [Countdown to One] And the Project continues to evolve. Now the journey comes full circle, as ONE returns home to its original point of inspiration, [PBS] Public Broadcasting Television In its newest incarnation, Countdown to ONE reunites on stage many of the film's celebrated cast, together with prominent voices from business, science, and politics. What really drives me is a vision of the future. It's a world of peace and prosperity and sustainability. The molecules in my body are traceable to phenomena in the cosmos. We are all essentially One. ONE - Coming to PBS Spring 2009
