The Importance of role clarity in your c-suite (1)

Hey, this is Kevin Griffith,
CEO of AmpliFi Capital.
Today we're talking about role clarity
in your company,
and how that really impacts
especially the c-suite.
What a lot of companies do
in order to attract talent
is they give away a lot of titles.
And they don't really think about the roles.
They just sit there and go,
"Well, I know I need someone
to run marketing and sales,
so I'm going to hire a CMO."
Or, "I need someone to run operations,
so I'm going to hire a COO."
And what happens is you wind up
with a lot of voices
who think that they are entitled
to be part of the decision.
And it's not as though it's a bad thing
to have a robust executive team,
nor is it a bad thing
to have decisions made by the team.
Where it gets a little bit challenging
is when you've got someone
who perhaps isn't quite ready
to be in that c-suite.
And they've taken the job
because they saw it as an advancement
for their career.
And there's kind of a gap,
from a skill standpoint
and an experience standpoint.
And what this does
is it can make a company go off track.
You can have poor execution.
There's a whole host of things
that could potentially go wrong
by having a title-inflated c-suite.
