Hello, I’m Alan Gates.
I’m the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts,
180 congregations in the eastern half of the Commonwealth.
The Cathedral of St. Paul, as the cathedral,
occupies a central place in our Diocesan life.
It’s a community of Christians who gather
here on Tremont St. in Downtown Boston on Sunday mornings
to worship and sing praise to God,
to support one another in fellowship in good and bad times,
and to find new ways to serve its Downtown Boston neighborhood.
St. Paul’s doesn’t look or feel very much like
the idea that many people have of an Episcopal cathedral.
But it does look and feel very much like a glimpse of God’s Kingdom,
a glimpse of the wide and, indeed, wildly divergent
group of folks who gather here.
And so, I hope you will feel warmly welcomed and invited
to come and worship with us at the Cathedral of St. Paul.
