Workstyle Freestyle 033 - 'Teal'

Hello Hoxbies! Welcome to Workstyle Freestyle With me, Alex Hirst. And with me, Lizzie Penny. And today we are hiding behind teal coloured things... Oooooh teal... Because we are talking about... 'teal organisations'. Of course we are. 'teal organisations'... A language, I think, created by Frederic Laloux in 2014 in his book 'Reinventing Organisations'. If you don't know Frederic Laloux have a read of his book 'Reinventing Organisations', it's very cool and we believe it is the future, it's what Hoxby is built on, it's what we consult in futureproofing around, and we just wanted to talk to you very quickly today about the three things that make up 'teal organisations'. - So... - Are we going to act them out? Alex is going to talk and act? - Good luck with that. So, 'teal organisations' - the first thing about 'teal organisations' to remember and to know is that this is about a peer-to-peer relationship, this is about non-hierarchical non-commanding control, this is about togetherness, it's kind-of the next level on from empowerment. It's self-management. It's a self-managing ecosystem, which is what Hoxby is. - Self-management. Number two! Number two is about, ah, I'm going to do an action - 'wholeness'. So this is about having a consistent set of practices that basically enable people to bring their whole self to work. So obviously Hoxby seeks to enable the kind of environment, the conditions, for people to be able to do that - 'workstyle' is the big enabler that we have which hopefully means people bring their whole selves to work and as a result, deliver better work too. And the third thing is an evolutionary purpose. So, hopefully Hoxby's purpose has been made very clear but obviously we have a purpose, but really purpose-led organisations are very much the way that business is going and has been proven to be a real driver of out-performance vs. no purpose-led organisations. So having an evolutionary purpose is kind of the thing that binds people in a self-managed environment, and the thing that enables 'teal organisations' to thrive. So those are the three things that make up a 'teal organisation'. Just to recap - self-management, wholeness, and the evolutionary purpose.
