Give your child nurture

A gift that I would give to any child that I had the power to give it to, is nurture.
If you think about, again, a newborn child, mommies and daddies
love them, snuggle and cradle them, talk to them, look into their eyes,
pat their little cheeks, count their little fingers and toes
a million times in the that first 9 to 12 months of life.
We pour nurture into our children.
Now a 6-year-old or a 12-year-old is a moving target.
You may have to be creative in finding ways to give nurture but there are ways.
There are special kinds of ice cream that are just for celebrating sitting
together and eating and looking at each other across the kitchen table.
There are special books. There are things the child is interested in,
and you can become the vehicle for nurture by holding the child
beside you or sitting the child beside you.
You are letting that child know that you are a part of something
they love and that you want to be a part of loving them.
Find ways; be creative; make a plan.
Think of a dozen ways that suit the special age, the special needs,
and the special history of your child.
Make your focus in those early months of your adoption on nurture.
