1 The Running of the Bulls - I Almost Got Trampled! (Vlog #10)

So, leading up to the running of the bulls,
I was really going back and forth
as to whether or not I should do it. A lot of people
were telling me that it was stupid, it was dangerous,
it was crazy, but I realized in the end that
if I didn't do it, I was gonna have regrets.
So it took place a couple of days ago, I ran
in the race and let me tell you, it was wild.
So the race is made up of two
main sections, first there's The Run,
which is about 800 meters long, and
after that the runners enter a bull ring,
and they try to evade the bulls
as they charge towards them.
I decided not to film myself while I was
running just because I wanted
to have both my hands free, in case
I needed to brace myself if I were to fall.
Turns out that was a good idea.
Luckily there were photographers
around the street taking photos,
so I was able to get some shots of myself.
So they first fire a rocket and the
bulls are released into the street.
Once they come into view, the
people just start running like crazy.
The main danger here isn't the bulls, it's actually
the people because you're in such a small alley,
and there are 2000 people there, all
pushing each other and getting in the way,
and colliding with each other.
It's really a chaotic environment.
I'm running as fast as I can, I'm looking
back to see where the bulls are,
then looking forward and
the looking back again.
And suddenly, about 30 seconds into the
race two people collided right in front of me,
and I didn't have a chance to react, I ran
right into them and fell on top of them.
Now, at this point I was absolutely terrified
because people are running as fast
as they can behind me, the bulls are
there too. I'm afraid I'm gonna get trampled.
You can actually see me in this photo
as I'm falling towards the ground.
I was on the ground for about 4 or 5 seconds.
Luckily I was able to pick myself up
and keep running and I was
sprinting as fast as I could.
I made it into the bull ring
before they closed the doors,
so I was able to participate in the
second part of the race as well.
So at this point I pulled out my
camera and started recording.
And basically you've got several
hundred people in the ring,
just trying to get out of the way of
a big bull as it runs towards them.
So I stayed in the ring for
about the first 5 minutes,
and then I hopped over the fence and
started watching from the sidelines.
The locals consider it an insult if you
try to grab the bull by the horns
and wrestle it to the ground. And there
was one guy who tried to do this
and he was hanging on really
tightly, and you know,
trying to muscle this
thing to the ground.
And as soon as he started doing that,
a bunch of people just rushed up to him
and started laying into him, they were
punching him as hard as they could,
so he had to get up and he
ran to the edge of the ring.
They had to get a police escort
to help him out of the ring,
and even as he's walking
out, you can see here,
some people slap him in the back of the head,
they were screaming curse words at him,
they were throwing beer at him,
they took it pretty seriously.
All in all it was an
absolutely crazy experience.
I probably won't do it again,
but I'm really glad that I did it.
